I wonder who would win in a donut eating contest?

    Bonzi or Barkley?

Elvin Hayes is the only player I'd consider right now. But after we retire Yao's, TMac's, and Steve's jersey after winning a couple Championships, we might run out of numbers.

you MUST be kidding on Barkley and Horry.

Barkley.. yes, great player. yes, 4 GREAT years in Phoenix including an MVP year. Here? 4 solid years, many of which were shortened by injury. Some severly shortened. He was no HoF player here, though still very good. Combine that with his lack of a championship here and lack of Houston roots...and it's easy to see why Drexler was retired and Barkley wasn't.

Horry? EVEN if you think his clutch playoff performances should net him greatness in the minds of the HoF... that still gives him very little here. A solid roler player here...but he'd certainly be 3rd (at best) on a list of playoff MVPs for us. Only 4 years here. Never a star or a 2nd banana or anything close to a go-to player or shutdown defender or playmaker. Only 4 years here!

If you want to retire people's ROCKETS jerseys for their performances on other teams, then you're making a mistake. That's not quite what it's about.

It makes it a lot less special to have your number retired, if you allow just anyone to have their numbers retired also.

Barkley doesn't deserve it. Great player, but not a long enough tenure or great enough impact on the franchise to warrant it.

Hayes, definitely is a yes though.

Barkley could out eat Bonzi and still grab 33 rebounds in a game.
Yes. And 'old shadow of himself' Barkley grabbed 33 REBOUNDS in ONE GAME with the ROCKETS.

Agreed. Calvin, Rudy & Dream are no-doubters. Moses & Clyde are debatable.

    Nobody else.

Moses is debatable? The only Rocket to win two MVP awards? How could you NOT consider retiring his number?

They both deserve it, but Moses deserves it more than Calvin. Clyde is a little debatable.

if you remember, the reason the rockets retired clyde's jersey # is that portland and him did not separate amicably and said they were not going to retire his jersey. then the rockets decided to do it and just claimed it was for his lifetime houston citizen and for his playing days in hisd and uh. then portland was being criticized by the fans and media and they decided to retire his uniform a year after the rockets. :D

It would follow the Rockets precedent of rewarding a player for his performance in one game.

No titles. Wasn't really here all that long... you know, the same reasons why people don't want Barkley's jersey retired.

I want Hayes to be retired in the San Diego green and gold uniform. After that no one for awhile.
Even though the cowgirls already do it, I like the ring of honor idea. That way Newlin, Reid, Lucas, Sampson, Thorpe, Maxwell, Smith, Horry, Cassell, Elie, Barkley and Mobley can all still be honored as Rocket greats w/o taking away from the retired numbers.
I don't feel like scrolling back through but someone put that the Astros have diluted their quality of retired numbers by retiring players that didn't fully deserve it. Umbright and Wilson are the only two that I agree with but they did pass while playing with the organization. Wynn, Cruz, Scott, Ryan, Dierker, Bagwell all deserve to be there and hold the integrity of that honor. Plus, they still need to retire JR Richards number and Biggio WILL be next year. For a team only 46 years years old, thats pretty good, Wilson and Umbright don't really take anything away (since they deid). Da rox have an awesome selection/history for only being 40 years old.

Three players =/= "everybody's damn name that has played with the rockets."

Why such animosity? You should take a timeout. :)

You're forgetting Earl Cureton, Charles Jones and Eric Riley.

I'm ok with every player up there atm. No more no less; however, if your not gonna award Horry/Maxwell/Cassel based on those two championships, why would you give Clyde the nod? After all he was much more effective as a blazer.
