#4 Charles Barkley - he was here just as long as Clyde was. #44 Elvin Hayes - a Houston legend. A crime that it hasn't been done yet. #25 Robert Horry - perennial NBA Finals co-star, got his first two rings and had his biggest role with the Rockets.
Barkley never won a championship with the team while he was here...plus Houston wasn't his hometown. And Robert Horry was nothing more than an integral role player...he's clutch in the postseason but he's no hall of famer. If you're gonna retire his you might as well retire Maxwell's...think Yao would mind?
Neither did Calvin Murphy or Moses Malone. Horry will get in the hall of fame by virtue of his extensive jewelry collection.
I certainly agree with Elvin Hayes. I'm less sure Barkley should have his jersey retired and Robert Horry isn't even eligible. He's still playing.
I guarantee Rodman will get in at some point, if not for his rings, than for his rebounding or even his notoriety. The hall of fame isn't really as big a deal as some of you are building it up to be. They let referees and assistant coaches and gimmick figures in. ROCKET HEROES should have their jerseys retired regardless of being in the hall of fame or not. What's with all the Barkley hate? Get over it guys, the Rockets beat the Suns in 94 and 95. He has no hard feelings about, neither should you.
What about Mario Ellie? I mean he did join the douchebag Spurs. But he was a big part of our Championships.
Good point. Giving the nod to Horry though for logging starters minutes and battling in the trenches with Barkley and Malone through the 95 playoffs. I think Elie has a strong chance of getting his jersey retired if he ever winds up with a coaching gig with the Rockets.
VSpan. I think Horry is a hall of famer. Six rings, most three pointers in playoffs, everyone likes him. But I do not think we should retire his jersey.
No to Barkley... i dont think anyone really needs their jersey retired... when all is done t-mac and Yao's will be retired after we win 3 championships in 5 years...YA I SAID IT
Forget Barkley!!!! He never was Rocket at heart, only had one good year, and in the end was more of a hindrance than a help to the effectiveness of Hakeem's leadership in his last years because of his infantile need for attention. I loathe the day we traded Horry and Cassell for him and all of his distractive ways. Kevin Willis, on the other hand, who was acquired at the same time was a huge asset, an awesome team player, and one we should have hung onto...!
