I live in JV and the expansion has begun. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE November 2, 2009 Traffic System Management Improvements Begin on US 290 HOUSTON – Rozco Contracting Inc., under contract to the Texas Department of Transportation, has begun work on the first of two Traffic System Management Improvement projects on US 290. The $2.5 million project consists of widening the existing pavement to add auxiliary lanes on the US 290 eastbound and westbound mainlanes between West Little York and Fairbanks N. Houston, as well as re-striping the existing pavement to add auxiliary lanes along the US 290 eastbound and westbound mainlanes between Jones Road and FM 529. Crews will also widen the westbound approach to Senate Avenue to create combined u-turn and left-turn storage at the intersection. Once complete, the auxiliary lanes will alleviate traffic congestion by providing motorists with improved ingress and egress to/from the US 290 mainlanes, and the Senate Avenue enhancements will facilitate improved movements through the intersection. Crews began installing barricades and signing this past weekend and are scheduled to begin work on the Senate Avenue intersection this evening; work on the US 290 mainlanes is anticipated to begin in the coming weeks. Work on the proposed improvements is anticipated to take approximately 6 months to complete. Motorists are advised to anticipate temporary lane reductions on the US 290 westbound frontage road to accommodate the intersection improvements, as well as extended shoulder closures and nightly mainlane closures along the US 290 eastbound and westbound mainlanes. Updated information regarding lane closures is available at: http://traffic.houstontranstar.org/construction/construction_report.aspx The second of the two projects was also awarded to Rozco Contracting Inc. in October and is slated begin construction in late 2009/early 2010, pending a Notice to Proceed. Though independent of the reconstruction planned as a part of the US 290/Hempstead Corridor Program, these projects are important first steps in providing immediate relief to the traffic congestion on the Northwest Freeway. For more information on this project and/or the US 290/Hempstead Corridor Program, please contact the US 290/Hempstead Corridor Program Public Information Office at (713) 354-1532 or at (713) 354-1556.
Jersey Village is a great place to live. The Cops will pull you over if you dont have the JV sticker but other than that it is OK. The school is also good as we have had multiple atheletes and musicians/actors come out of there since the late 80's. The one thing that is a postive is there is not huge Redneck following there like at CY-Farm aka Cy Fair. Goto JV alumni and you can see who the famous ex students are.
I am a senior student at Cypress Falls, there's not many bad things going on here, so its not bad, if you want to go to JV, the cops are pretty mean there, and the school itself, isn't too great.
I'm actually from a little bit north, in the Cypress Creek area, about ten minutes away from JV but I visit my dad frequently who lives in JV. I've personally never had a problem with cops, but I know he's been ticketed a few times for minor violations. And I too went to Cy-Falls. It's cool to see so many Falls people here!
When has JV ever been a good place to live? I grew up on the North West side back in the 70's, and JV pretty much sucked back then. Has it gotten any better? I'm sure there are worst places to live, but it wouldn't be my first, second, third, or fourth choice. Like others have said, I would hate to drive 290 every day.
I live off 290 and Jones which is where all the popo patrol action starts. Like many posters said they are bad for pulling you over on any and everything. I agree with Kam on traffic, its horrendous. And if you plan on heading to the Rockets game from the area make sure you make it before rush hour traffic cause just making your way to 610 is murder. The schools are pretty good from what I hear. If you do plan on moving up this way I'd suggest to head a little farther North, around the Cypress area. Tons of new homes being built, but they may be around the pricier side. I know some folks that have nice homes and don't make a buttload so it's not Woodlands type of expensive.
