Any point guard that we end up signing I don't see it being for more than 2 yrs seeing that we've striked out on everybody else. I wouldn't mind sign him to a cheap contract giving his age at 23 even though he is more of a scoring PG.
Here is a short mix tape I found on Bayless -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvZBZlXaK14 Bayless is a scoring PG. As the tape makes clear, he will slash and cut to get to the rim where he is a good finisher. Because of this style, he draws fouls and is a career 82% FT shooter. He can get an offense going. Last year, he got his 3P% up to 42.3%. His PER was 17.7, and his per 36 numbers were 18 ppg with 6 assists. He played in only 31 games last season (starting 11) -- "Three games into the season, he suffered a severe hip pointer; a day after returning, he partially tore his left oblique and missed the rest of the season." He seems to be as good a fit to what McHale does as any PG available to us, although his defense is not a strong suit.
I actually like the idea. He's still young, as someone already pointed out. What do we have to lose? Seems we're either putting all our marbles in for Howard or tanking.
I like that he doesn't seem to have big turn over issue but we would need a PG that can distribute and play a little defense if they want to start, otherwise we should just go after Aaron Brooks, since he has a much higher scoring potential.
