Maybe this is all about Kirilenko getting his way and forcing management to fire Sloan. haha

    The_Yoyo

I've made this point before. I followed all three yrs of Deron at UofI (I'm from Illinois) after I quit watching NCAA for like 10 years. His name is properly pronounced DeRON, not Darren. I'm thinking he always hated having to allow the Utah/Bewitched pronunciation. I think he always hated being there, and Sloan probably tried to change him even more. That bastid.

Yeah, I agree. Predict he will flee. Utah is grasping at straws now.

Ha, Ha, Ha... maybe in a bingo match. Tough mind doesn't mean tough fighter. Honestly I doubt Sloan in his prime could take on DWill. The kids a tank. He's Lowry with 5 more inches.

Yeah, it would be ironic if Williams used Sloan leaving as an excuse to bail. Irony abounds!

The NBA is a players League.

If suddenly Dwight Howard wanted his coach out, the coach would be gone.

Both Magic (Westhead) and Bird (Fitch) did it; actually telling management to fire them. And that was AFTER they won rings. Hakeem somewhat did it; although indirectly. Did MJ get Collins fired?

In Orlando, both the coach and player lost. T-mac blamed Rivers for the losses. Doc Rivers got fired and then T-mac got traded at All-star break.

Doc got his ring later with Boston.

This seriously changes my opinion of Deron Williams. You have a highly respected and tenured coach, and you're going against his will? What a prima donna. Put your head down and do what your coach says.

I used to think he was the best pg in the league. Now I don't even care if he is or not. He has lost my respect.

Plus, once the ownership starts listening to the soldiers more so than the general, things are over anyway. It doesn't work bottom up.

I hated the Jazz just as much as the next Rocket fan, but I'd take Sloan in a hear beat. If you wouldn't, you're just an idiot.

He sure is a great coach. He knows how to get more out of his players. Eventhough, I hate the Jazz, they draft well and they get players that fit in their system.

I've always heard Darren. Then again I didn't watch much of his college days

Actually I'm wondering now where you heard its suppose to be pronounced DeRon instead of Darren. It seems according to these Illini fans its pronounced Derron.

Wow. I'm actually sad. I don't even know if I'll be able to hate the Jazz like I did before without Sloan at the helm.

Yeah , makes one feel ancient .....

I dint hate him at all , he's done a hell of a job with that small market team.

His coaching accomplishments are top notch. I hate the Jazz as much as anyone but I respect the job Sloan was / has been able to do with limited resources in such a small market.

15 consecutive playoff appearances .... the only coach to win 1000 with the same team , 9th in career winning percentage (Adleman is 8th). One of three coaches to post a winning record for better than seasons. Third in total wins.

Dude had a hell of a run .... I wouldnt mind him coming to Houston IF for some reason Adleman isnt or chooses not to resign with the Rockets.

class act and a winner throughout.

Sorry guys, but I don't have it in me to bash a guy on his deathbed no matter how much I hate the jazz.

He made their team great , and turned his players into hard blue collar workers.

    consider this post reported!

seriously though, he is a dirty b*stard, but after 20 something years its a shame to see him go out like that.

i was listening to sports radio yesterday while working and everyone who called in from slc was pissed - if its deron vs. sloan the fans were 110% behind sloan - they were really angry at deron to the point where if i was him i would be concerned for my safety.

    Several thoughts:

-Was stunned seeing this (at a birthday happy hour at Brian O'Neils), especially that it was effective immediately

-No team gets under my skin like the Jazz......but I can't deny the respect you have to give Jerry Sloan, who was shafted forever in coach of the year awards. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that he should go down as a top 5 coach of all time.

-From what I've been seeing and hearing, he was NOT forced out but ultimately was in a power battle with Deron Williams and quit when management declined to take Deron to the woodshed over it.

    Supposedly:
Deron Williams has been red hot since last year about how serious the franchise is about contending, from the GM moves to the coaching staff.
Not that he's been going through the motions, but whispers are that Sloan isn't as dedicated as he was and isn't pushing players like he used to.
Practices/shootarounds/walkthroughs have been casual and light.
Deron's relationship with Sloan over the last year has gotten icey.
Deron openly bucked Sloan's direction in the Chicago game and Sloan was furious.
Sloan wanted him suspended, but front office wasn't going to play along.
    Sloan quit.
