Seinfeld was an OK Standup Comedian he had some funnies but his show blew his standup out of the water Rocket River
Then it lost its humor after the 6th time he made a comment about it...even Larry was getting annoyed, rightfully so. By not letting it go, its obvious that deep down, Jerry had an issue with that statement. He may have tried to mask it with "humor", but little Seinfeld got his feelings hurt.
That's what it felt like at first but as rezdawg said he should have just dropped it. Made him look real pompous.
Yeah, and it was equally obvious that, by being "confused" whether or not the show was canceled (when everyone KNEW it was Seinfeld's decision to end it. It made headlines when he announced it, people were so shocked), Larry was trying to manufacture drama where none exists and paint Seinfeld in a negative light in the process. Why would you even suggest that someone else canceled his show unless you're trying to intimate that the show deserved cancellation. I'm not a Seinfeld fan (far from it, in fact), but I'm with Jerry on this one. Larry's an jerk.
Larry King just never preps for his interviews, and he lives in outer space. The interviews are horrid. Anyone see his interview with Paul, Ringo, Olivia Harrison and Yoko Ono? Paul and Ringo could barely contain their laughter. He just asks atrocious questions - it could be a random question generator. Good call by Seinfeld - who is becoming insufferable, btw - nailing him it.
No what Mencia needs to do is shoot himself and get thrown into space so there would be absolutely no remains of his stupid self.
I didnt know that...I watched the show every now and then, but wouldnt have been able to tell you how or why it ended. Im sure many people were/are just as clueless on the topic as I am. And if its such common knowledge, then Jerry should have just made a comment and moved on.
Larry David was the foundation of the George Costanza character. The Jerry character was based on Jerry himself.
I think Costanza was the real star of that show. That is why Curb your Enthusiasm with Larry David is so popular, and the other shows that Julie Louis Dreyfus and Michael Richards have failed so quickly. I don't think a show with Jerry Seinfeld without Costanza would be funny at all. I get the feeling that both Seinfeld's character and himself in real life are smug jackasses.
Seinfeld is an outstanding comedian. That is why HBO gave him the inaugural comedian award. If you can get Chris Rock and Gary Shandling to say you are the best comedian around, you are pretty damn funny. Whether or not he is smug, he is hilarious. Comedy, like all art forms, is of course subjective, so what is funny to me may not be funny to you. But to think Seinfeld couldn't make a new show absent Larry David or the George character and be successful is silly.
It's not that farfetched. Stand-up greatness doesn't necessarily translate to other forms. Even the great George Carlin couldn't carry a show by himself. Most of the (better) Seinfeld episodes where really built more around the misadventures of the supporting characters than Jerry's life as a comedian. It's not a slight on Seinfeld, just that they are completely different formats.
Jerry Seinfeld is a douche. I hated his show and I can't stand all of the hype surrounding this new movie. They are treating him like he is some huge actor. The dude has never starred in his own movie and isn't on par with the greats. He had one big TV show. Big ****ing deal. So did Ted Danson but no one rides his jock when he comes out with a movie.
dave chappelle's show is 23% funny, the rest is just filler. seinfield show 70% funny, obviously his cast helped a LOT. But its easy to be funny when you can make fun of everyone, ever since 1st grade it has been funny to make fun of someone, like dave does or did... sienfield was an acquired taste, i didnt like it much till after high school. he makes comedy out of nothing, now thats work.
