Good move for Isiah. Hes one step closer to becoming the worst GM ever. Now he just needs to give Allan Houston an extention.
True, but I've only read that the Sonics have little interest in obliging. They're constantly in cost-cutting mode, and I'd be surprised if they want to bring in overpaid guys like that. Evan
James is a very up and down player, but when he's on his game, he's a nice player to have on the court. And I never thought SS to the knicks via the mle was a threat. I thought that a sign and trade with those big expiring contracts and the willingness to overspend for guys like SS and eat contracts like Cardinal's was the biggest threat. Thomas might be being shrewd at this point and not offering up a deal like that to Memphis, but if the pfs dry up he may get desperate enough to throw it out there.
this could be considered both good and bad news. the knicks are now officially out of the bidding for swift, that's the good news. however, the bad news is that if jerome james is getting 5 years, $30 million for 4 pts and 4 boards a game, there is very little chance swift will take a similar deal with the MLE. oh yeah, did i mention Isiah is and idiot for paying this stiff who'll probably get injured running laps in preseason and not play all year, a guaranteed $30 million????
I guess this all but shoves Michael Sweetney out the door then...this team has something like 7 big men now...and they're now stuck with James, and you'd have to assume that they won't trade David Lee or Channing Frye yet. I haven't seen Sweetney play too much, but maybe the Rockets could swing a deal with them to clear some cap space after this season...give them expiring contracts and/or picks for Sweetney and maybe Jerome Williams. They could probably get something useful just for Sweetney alone, so that's why I'd involve Williams. *Weatherspoon, Baker, 1st round pick for Sweetney and Williams works with the cap. I know we'd be giving them their old garbage back, but they would be more concerned with the money they'd clear up than players. They'd probably buy out both of those contracts to free up roster space. I think New York would be a great backup plan if Swift doesn't work out...at least this way we wouldn't be stuck with Spoon as a backup, and we don't have to overpay a guy like Donyell Marshall.
No way do we want Sweetney. We need a mobile 4 not his bulk. The MLE wouldn't be overpaying that much for Marshall, especially if you want Jerome Williams' contract which is far worse than the MLE. Nor do we want a 4 incapable of making a jumpshoot which is exactly what Williams is. You haven't watched Marshall play if you don't think he is an effective player, & one more suited to our needs.
