Maybe one of those guys who gets put in for part of the 2nd and 3rd quarter of game six in the 3rd round of the playoffs and gets hot and puts the team over the hump and is remembered in rockets history forever but never amounts to anything more and goes on the decline after then is bounced from team to team before going overseas then retiring with a couple of stories to tell his kids and a championship ring
Potential is determined by a combination of physical and mental tools. A guy like Stromile Swift never really had the potential he was given credit for because he was empty between the ears.
I never though much of Taylor; Chase beat him into the rotation pretty early on and we had not really seen much of him but his game against the Lakers really impressed me. I know there was love for JT on ClutchFans since the beginning of the season and I know he was a primary scorer in college, but his overall performance and effort in the last game should earn him some playing time.
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/6935734.html Kobe Bryant: [rquoter] “He has a lot of potential,” Bryant said. “I like that he competed. He's physical, didn't back down. One thing I really enjoy seeing from young players is guys who play both ends of the floor and not just scoring the ball.” [/rquoter]
Taylor has what it takes to be a very good player in this league. He can score, play above the rim, quickness, handle the ball etc... That's why he was a big time scorer in college. Lets see if he can put it all together and translate that into the NBA. Some players are very good in college but they couldn't translate that to the NBA. Some players were not top tier in college but when they got to the NBA, they somehow evolved their game. In Jermaine's case, only time would tell. I wouldn't say anything now and wait like 3-4 seasons to really determined how he would fit in this league. Because usually by the 3rd year, you can tell if a player has what it takes to be a good player or his potential would stunt.
It's great for a young player to get praise from Kobe. I think playing against Kobe gave Talyor confidence. Hopefully, this will help turn around his career.
I can see Taylor being a Jason Richardson type player. Someone who can play defense but also is a high flyer and can shoot the three ball.
Really? From what I've seen of his outside shot, it had no polish at all. I'm seeing him as more or less another rim attacking SG, for better or worst.
Don't get over infatuated with his dunks and athleticism. He is too damn selfish for my taste relative to his skill level and showed that again last night, forcing up 2 shots and got stuffed both times in consecutive possessions, and even Clyde acknowledged that.
