Didn't mean to be dirisive with my answer, but I personally feel that most rookies need to be given at minumum of a year to develop before you can make an assesment on how there future will pan out in the league. I have doughted Morey and his scouts once to often, to eventually eat crow with there ability to spot talent in the draft. Aaron Brooks was sent to the D-league a couple of seasons ago and now he's the rockets starting PG.
Players that develop careers in the NBA can and do. If a defensive player knows you must go right all the time, he has an enormous advantage in defending against you. That is one reason Taylor so far has had trouble with his shot. When Taylor does go left whle dribbling with his right hand, the ball is exposed to the defender. The results so far have been unhappy.
Let's not be so quick to determine what Taylor can do. He's very strong and athletic, so his hard work can pay great dividends. I remember Landry struggled badly early on, to the point where we thought he was lucky to even get signed. He couldn't even crack the rotation the first few months of the season, a horrible sign for a guy on a one year deal, but he was reportedly a very hard worker. When he finally earned some playing time he burst out of the gates. Everyone had already written him off. Not all good players have a great start. Quick pessimism is pointless.
Transitioning from a player that has the ball in his hands all the time to one that plays off the ball is not easy. Just ask Tmac....and Francis..... Give him some time....but it is not an easy task. DD
Why does he need to play off the ball? Wafer never learned to play off the ball, but once he got it in his hands he was gonna score quick. He didn't need to come off screens or make cuts. Wafer took a lot of shots, but he didn't have the ball in his hands much. Two or three seconds at a time, tops.
Quick pessimism (Taylor) and enthusiasm (Budinger) is pointless especially when your talking about rookies and the incredible learning curve that they will have to go through. I expect many ups and downs during there first year.
Exactly, nuff said. Excellent points, by both you and Jump Shooter. Patience is a virtue, keep that in mind to everyone already Xing JT out.
What? Wafer played OFF the ball all last year......someone else brought it up, he ran around a screen and took it to the hoop. That is what I mean. DD
DD i'm thinking even more now that you're wrong about taylor.....he's not gonna spend the year in d-league.....and he may even get some burn outside of garbage time...
I think Taylor has potential to be a very good player. I even think he has more potential than Budinger.
He had 2 monster dunks and showed that he could hit the midrange jumper. He just needs to stay away from 3 pt shots.
Depending upon the health and number of practice players we need, I see Taylor in the D League all year, or for a good portion of it. Never sniffing any meaningful minutes on the NBA floor. DD
he and ariza just need someone who knows how to pass them the ball in the best positions for them to score.
