Yea, it's pretty much a win-win for Toronto. O'Neal will either be productive and healthy, but if he's not, he'll still be a 20+ million expiring contract.

I also wonder how Indiana is going to get rid of Jamaal Tinsley. As Larry Bird has already stated, he's "for sale."

It could workout for the Pacers if they kept him and didn't have to rely on Tinsley as a starter.

Or in a trade perhaps Tinsley for Sean May + Morrison/Carroll?

How can the Raptors lose in this deal?

    1. O'Neal miraculously comes back and plays the solid veteran role and gives the Raptors much needed front court help

    or

    2. O'Neal finally breaks into pieces and the raptors takes his salary off after next season.

They clear up MORE cap room after next season AND get Calderon that much-deserved starting spot.

Rockets should go after Tinsley. With Tinsley/Alston/Jackson we would have enough bricks to rebuild the entire state of Louisiana. :p

I'm pretty sure they would actually pay teams to take Tinsley off their hands.

You realize JO has two years left on his contract and it won't be until the 2010/11 season that he comes off the books. His contract will be like a millstone around their necks if he goes down to injury or doesn't rebound back to form. The Raptors have PLENTY to lose in this deal. On the upside, if JO returns to form, the Raptors will have a legit low-post star who brings very good defense to the table. It could vault them into a Finals contender. They still need to add a tough-minded perimeter player.

I'm glad the Pacers are finally getting rid of him. It was time.

Whoops my fault. Good looking out A_3PO. I still think it's a winning situation for the Raptors. I doubt they expect the JO of 18/10 days. I honestly think they just need a starting center that can (hopefully) play 75% of the season so Bargnani can play some freelance small forward. It's a big gamble but I think Colangelo see's it as "If i'm going to burn money on an injury-prone player, it better be on a position I need rather than on a position I'm set at"

I guarantee u that's nothing worser than the buyout of Alonzo Mourning's contract.

the crazy thing is - Tinsley is a baller.

and he's not so much a headcase, more so seems a bit lazy and uninspired.

maybe a change of location would fire him up.

Sure he cannot shoot, but he's a great distrubuting and can break down the defense.

im NOT saying we need him in PG overloaded Houston, but me thinks he has something to offer somewhere.

JO and Bosh make a formidable frontline.

although their health is up in the air....

Toronto had to make a move though, it was clear last season that what they were putting out there was not going to cut it.

I guess Indiana will be taking Augustin off their radar now. With picks at 12 and 17 to boot. I may be one of the few who see this trade as a coup for the Pacers. You don't think the fans there are celebrating in the streets now that they took off 44 million from their payroll in the next two years? That contract was almost as bad as Shaq's when Phoenix donated their immediate future to resurrect Miami's.

This trade could work out for both teams, but only if O'Neal was doggin' it in his rehab last year.

Isn't it a condemnation of the league when "I hope he was doggin' it to get a trade" becomes the rationale for making blockbuster acquisitions??? Whenever a basketball executive says "we still believe he has a lot of game", this is actually what they mean. It was most prominent with Vince, but then trickled down in minor forms to lead to the Garnett and Gasol deals and finally backfired in the Shaq debacle.

Tinsley isn't a problem on the court. The problem is he doesn't play every 2nd or 3rd game because of injuries.

He definitely has plenty of game and still has some value IMO. I would take him on this squad in a heartbeat. Sure, an Alston/Tinsley combo at PG isn't the biggest 3 point threat around but between both guys you have a very, very solid PG position.
