[rquoter]Former Jets defensive tackle Kris Jenkins has joined the piling on in New York.

Jenkins, who played for the Jets his final three seasons before retiring prior to the 2011 season, said on the Mike Lupica Show that he doesn’t believe quarterback Mark Sanchez is the kind of leader the team needs. Jenkins praised third-string quarterback Greg McElroy for speaking out about the toxic environment in the Jets’ locker room, and questioned why Sanchez hadn’t similarly spoken out.

“The No. 1 quarterback should have said that a long time ago,” Jenkins said. “It would have been all part of the process of him growing a pair and standing up and being a man. But the thing is, he lost his because he got caught up in the wash that is New York, the spotlight, taking pictures in the magazines and doing all that stuff. That’s just what everybody has seen with Mark Sanchez, they got tired of it.”

    ...

Jenkins said he was impressed by Sanchez’s potential when they played together, but he questions whether Sanchez has it in him to command respect within the Jets’ locker room.

“Mark wants to be a leader but there’s a difference between wanting it and taking it,” Jenkins said. “He’s always trying to be a crowd pleaser. He’s always trying to be nice. He wants to be a leader but he won’t take it.”[/rquoter]

McElroy will be cut. Interview was done in comfy confines of Bama. Scared little punk.

On the issue of lack of playing time, its a little different with backup QBs.

Even WHEN healthy there are backup QBs who might NOT take one single snap during the season.

If it was a backup DB who never saw the field even on special teams, that would SURELY indicate "scrub".

Was scheduled to be on ESPN First Take....but the coward canceled. Throws shots from Alabama, instead of addressing team mates privately, now he's scared to face the media.

did he sleep with your mom or what? Why the hatred? Especially considering nothing he said was that bad and is in fact true.

Not sure why people would be bothered by it. He didn't throw out any names, so he isn't throwing individuals under the bus.

so those who criticize McElroy's comment, you're saying he shoulda just simply said "no comment" when the question popped up? Just cause he's a 7th round rookie, he's not allow to express his point of view? Damn what country we live in....

Ubigred losing his mind over this is far more interesting than the actual incident itself.

If I'm a jet fan, I support McElroy for saying what probably should have been said a long time ago.

There's no better disinfectant than the light of day.

What he said is pretty obvious for any football fan with common sense. It's not like he revealed something that people couldn't figure out.

It doesn't matter if he gets cut I'm pretty sure he can sign somewhere and be what he was in New York.

Not at all. He is still a p***y for canceling subsequent interviews.

Remind me what's wrong with what he said again?

Yeah, shame on him for trying to bring attention to the cluster-**** that is the Jets and Rex Ryan! Shame!
