Here is hopefully a more readble version of my table above: Code: Year FG% Assists Rebounds Points Lin 2011-12 0.446 8.3 4.1 19.6 Francis 2000-01 0.451 5.8 6.2 17.9 I've added a "Year" column. Remember, these are per 36 minutes.
The person in their prime.... Its not fair to compare a person who has had a full nba career to a person who started 25 games, barely had any playing time, and is at the beginning of his career. To me Steve Francis was like a more out of control Russell Westbrook.
Exactly. With Lin's work ethic, determination, competitiveness, mental toughness, fearlessness, and heart - he's just not going to disappear and live down to the expectations of the naysayers. All players generally have talent, but I think it's these qualities that enable them to reach the next level. So, Lin should welcome teams' adjustments and strategies to try to shut him down. Because these kinds of experiences will only accelerate his development and make him a better player faster. Plus, it's a big compliment to him as a player that teams have to game plan for him. I think Lin is simply an overachiever and he seems to love challenges...you can see it in his eyes and facial expression when he, for example, plays someone like Wall or when he knifes into the lane surrounded by defenders or whenever he steals a ball.
Jeremy Lin is the real deal. I was very upset when the Rockets cut him, because I just knew he would be a special player. In what limited time the Rockets gave him, every single time he touched the ball, positive things happened. Props to the Rockets for realizing their mistake. Lin is gonna be a star on this team and I believe just his presence alone will keep us in contention for a low playoff spot.
I absolutely agree. The rocks are like a greatly undervalued stock: whoever invests now is going to rewarded not only with some great basketball but the pride of having the foresight to have recognized just how good this team really can be. If I lived anywhere near the area, there is no doubt I'd buy a ticket package. You guys are lucky.
He's 6'3" 200lbs... he should be able to dunk. I'd be more impressed if he could do this: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/VEcqGZ9hNx4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Russel is ridiculously explosive. Lin isn't as explosive as Russ and Rose. He is athletic but I don't think he can do that.
I know, but wouldn't it be impressive? Maybe Lin could do this instead? <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/AbyOevVAYQI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> I'm kidding btw.
Lol. That was an insane dunk man. Griffin's dunk on Kendrick and Pau were amazing. But yeah it would be impressive if Lin could dunk like Russ does.
I had Lin pegged at 18 & 8 this season and I am sticking by it. He will likely have mostly good games, a few great games and a few bad games. I don't think the Rockets will make the post-season though. But if they did, I wouldn't be crazy surprised to be honest and I would definitely be stoked about it. That means the team has a very good future. And to be honest, post season experience is good for a young team even if it is a first round exit. But I still have us pegged at 35 wins. We shall see though.
There was some amateur blogger who dealt with sports stats who predicted these types of numbers for JLin (near 20 pts, over 7 apg) well before he blew up based solely upon his college production. The blogger got some free pub from yahoo! just as linsanity was ramping up. A guy from oregon somewhere, who led a quiet life otherwise, aside from his 15 minutes. But the point is, JLin projects out as an all-star caliber player, based on both college stats as well as per 36 as a pro in NYK. And that's not factoring in his work ethic, which is just crazy. LOL at these "he's not that athletic" comments despite the objective metrics. Wonder where that stereotype comes from?
He is not that athletic. First, there is the eye test. He can get by his man, but he doesn't have a ton of lift and his lateral quickness could use some work. But the eye test is deceiving right? Sure it can be, but is still useful. On the eye test alone we can say he's not as "explosive" as Russ... Second, there are more "objective" measures. At this point, people like to throw out the BAM speed scores which show he is faster than Irving and Wall. All this shows is that he has elite speed. This is just one of many aspects of athleticism. If you look at his overall BAM scores (including power and agility), he scored way below both Irving and Wall. I eventually think Lin will play at an All-Star level, but its not going to be his "athleticism" that gets him there. He's got good court vision, elite speed, and good size, but most importantly all those intangibles.
For sure. Taking size into account, Westbrook is one of the most explosive athletes in the NBA, if not the most. But that level of athleticism isn't even necessary to be a successful point guard in the league. How often do D-Will or Steve Nash posterize someone? Lin was essentially a rookie last season and it'll be fun to see his growth into this season.
Nash is one of the least athletic PG in the league (if not the least), but he is also one of the best PG. That tells you a lot. it is so painful watching Russ play like a chicken with its head cut off, albeit a very athletic chicken
Oh yeah I agree. He isn't crazy explosive but he plays smart basketball. Check Parker and Nash, they handle there business despite there lack of athleticism.
