Makes no difference to the rockets. Lin will not be a rocket past next year, maybe even this summer.

His numbers are very consistent when he gets to play more than half the game. What I find odd about Rockets fans is that they don't seem to recognize that Lin is never given a consistent role by the coaching staff. Is he a PG? Is he a SG? Or, is he like a small wing who spots up for the corner 3? If Harden and Howard are the stars, why does he often end up with the ball late in the shot clock? In fact, I've never seen a situation where a non-star player on a good team end up with so many shots at the end of the shot clock. Is he worthy of star minutes? Or, does he only play garbage minutes? He has actually played both roles......a guy who was indispensable in an OT win against Portland, and the same guy who was given garbage minutes against Sacramento and the LA Lakers. Despite all of that, when he gets 24 or more minutes per game, he averages 15.3/5.4 per game, despite the fact that he gets almost no pick and roll plays run for him. I think he is vastly underrated.

You guys can post all you want, but you are never going to change each other's mind or anyone's mind for that matter.

I'm guessing the 28 other GM's that didn't offer Dragic a better offer than Phoenix don't have a brain.

Obviously he would have gotten a lot more offers if they knew that he would improve as much as he has since his 4th year in the league. But everyone knows that the 4th year is when you can tell everything about a player, well at least that's what you keep saying.

This isn't just against you personally, but just in general why discussions with LOFs tend to delve into chaos.

The problem is that LOFs seem like Fox News. They start with a false and extreme premise, so that even moderate points seem like "hating" and "bias against Lin."

So here you start with the premise that the Rockets don't run Pick and Roll plays for Lin.

    But what is the truth?

Tis true, most players are very near their peak at that mark.

No more upside for a 4th year player? Its like revisionist history central up in here. Take the prodigal son Dragic: He showed sparks, but didn't even reach his potential until now, in his 6th season. Did you think his book was written when he was 24 on the Suns, in his 4th season shooting 42% from the field, 27% from 3 before the trade? Or the next season, when he was 42% and 27% again before he got to be the man without Lowry? Or last season when he put up a decent but not spectacular 14 and 7 on 44%FG, 33% from 3?

Did you think these guys had no more upside halfway into their 4th season?

the truth is you don't not read well and you don't understand well ...if you looked at the numbers you provided, Lin had the second least pnr poss. in this list, although he ranked 4th in pts/poss.. His pnr poss. are even less than George Hill who is not known as a pnr player.... in this list, only DWade has less pnr poss. than Lin, don't tell me DWade needs pnr plays than Lin does

I'll give you that his given role seems very consistent.

Initially, I thought he was always playing PG, but I've noticed that
it's more often that of a SG role eg PBev brings the ball up and facilitates
the play (when JHarden is not on court).

Very odd if you ask me.

I am thinking this is not of his doing and just following instructions
ie. the play SG and not PG part.

Wait, what? Doesn't that article mean Lin-Howard pick and rolls are effective, but they don't run it a lot? So it means they should run more. Seems like they don't do it very often anymore either since Bev came back.

Also, am I reading that "Most points per pick-and-roll possession, team" chart right? 2nd most effective P&R team, but 27th in the league for number of P&R's ran? Oh well, who knows. Top 4 teams up there are all in the 20s for number of P&R's ran, but all have good records so obviously there are some other factors.

You struggle with the obvious correlation that in general when he's playing well, he plays more. When Beverley plays well, Lin plays less. You struggle with really basic concepts, a lot.

It's quite fun to watch when he's in attacking mode.

So Lin getting roughly 72% of PnR possessions as Kevin Durant means "the Rockets don't run almost any pick and rolls for him" as the poster I responded to suggested? And you wonder why LOFs are annoying?

This makes no sense if you know about what basketball is. The most effective Rockets play is the breakaway dunk. It's like 100% effective. Why don't they run that all the time? Because teams play defense, of course. There are two teams that play on the court. If they aren't running a certain play, it's because the other is preventing them from doing it. The Rockets offense involves what the defense allows. The reason why superstars are superstars is because they can bypass that. Jeremy Lin, other than his Linsanity period, has never proven to do that consistently.

You ignorance and stupidity is annoying... When did you see superstar forwards like Durant and LeBron use as many pnr plays as guards? Those guys don't depend on PnR plays, they play a lot iso plays....
Look at Dragic's number, get an idea of how many poss. a guard who excels at PnR played PnR...

Man, just had to put in an insult huh? That's the nature of the board I guess. Anyways, I'm talking about the microcosm of when the defense is set and the offense is playing half court. If Lin and Howard are on the floor, and the data shows the P&R between them is effective, then why not go straight to that? Of course, that would entail for him to be a 2nd option and that's obviously not his role on this team. Also, if a team isn't running a certain play, it's not always because of the defense. It could be because the team just isn't going to run that play. If Harden, Lin and Howard are on the floor, then majority of the time, the Rockets will run plays between Harden and Howard. That's just the dynamic of this team and any team with a big man/wing man star duo.

I would argue about the consistency of Lin, but we all know everyone has made up their own mind about him so that's kind of pointless.

By the way, I actually don't agree with "khyberjones"'s assertion that the coaches don't run PnR plays for Lin... but the way you rebut him with that data set is purely stupid and more annoying ...

So the truth is, Lin has gotten about half the amount of PnRs as Dragic and Lillard, 1/3 the amount of Ellis, and even less than an extremely low usage George Hill.

Also that Lin is #4 in PnR points per possession yet it's run an extremely low amount.
