I completely agree. While the LOF's tend to overstate their case and try to build up Lin by bashing Harden, you have offered a solid assessment. I liked Lin from the beginning. I was shocked when the Rockets cut him. I didn't see "Linsanity" coming, no one did. But, I know he had "it." I am still amazed at how he gets to the basket. I don't think he will be a "superstar," but I see him as a top notch performer, maybe all star and much better in a year or two. I don't particularly like the way he is "managed" in the line up, but not sure I could do better. It seems that McHale doesn't have confidence in him, but we shall see.

50% overall and 40% from 3? Is that shooting coach serious? Only Tony Parker has this stat amount top point guards.

Realistic measure? Conley is in his 6th season and it's debatable if he's even barely better than Lin at this point.

Hah, yeah, just a little optimistic, there have been maybe 10 pgs in nba history who have had those stats (with a reasonable amount of 3s taken)

Lin's upside is Linsanity (small sample). All time great status.

Not sure how equating Lin's talent to Conley's talent is considered bashing...they're both starting PGs for playoff teams, they have similar stats, and they're both Tier 2 or 3 pgs (Top 12-20 range). Conley may be a tad better at this point, but to say that Lin's potential peak value would be a present day Conley seems unfair to Lin. Conley has a chance to improve also, he's only 25, he may be a top 8 PG also, though I doubt he could be top 5. I would bet on Lin being a top 8 PG over Conley at some point though.

Conleys major advantages over lin are defence and consistency and the consistency is likely the result of a consistent role in the offense.

Conley IS a top 10 PG. People are not giving him credit where credit is due. Sure, he's not CP3 but just saying he's an average PG is an insult (not that I care, I like him but i'm not a Memphis homer). Just saying.

In regards to Lin, I don't know why this is even a thread. We already witnessed his raw 'upside' in NY.

Now, if we are talking about Linsanity v2.0 upside, we are obviously talking about a better version of v1.0 with maturity and mental toughness. Most people improve with the correct training.

If we are talking about a better Linsanity 1.0, then we are really talking about shooting for the stars - all time greatness. I'm not ready to say that yet for obvious reasons (for ever Steve Nash, there's 10 could-had-beens), but assuming his health is OK (mentally/ physically), his upside could be hall of fame greatness.

Tony Parker came close in 2006 shooting 39.5% from 3, but his career avg is a low 31.3%.

Steve Nash has done it multiple times. But I don't know if any other active pg has done it.

Harden came close last year. But he shot under 50% and under 40% from 3pt land.

he only had 38 3PA that year

    49% FG and 39% 3P...that's close enough... if he made 4 more 3's he'd be 50 and 40

Debatable to LOFs... Conley is the better player without a doubt.

Conley is tied for first(g.Hill) as the best defensive PG, theres a reason the Griz are the #1 Defensive team

Griz have 3 starters who are top3(Gasol,Allen,Conley) in there position defensively

Conley doesnt need to put up huge numbers with 2 of the best post players= reason he is overlooked

A reflection on how well he will shot overall will come from his FT shooting. Guys who can do 50/40 are usually high percentage free throw shooters. Nash, Durant, Curry.

    Plz dont be a LOF

Since the black hole of offense got traded(R.Gay)

    Conley is a 17/6 guy

because there TS% and eFG% are close, doesnt me they are even close as players

you can bring up this argument by Lin's 3rd year on the Rockets, but not now

This thread is about Lin's upside, so I'm pretty sure we can bring up this argument right now.

Mike Conley is much better than Lin defensively. Also he is more consistent. I don't think Lin will ever be as good as Conley on D but I think offensively Lin has the potential to surpass him. Let's see next season.
