Why? Revenue generated covers the expenses and creates greater Capex which largely benefits the players. Rockets win at the end of the day.

Actually this may mean that currently, Lin brings more value to the Rockets than Harden.

It would be great if he was consistently awesome on and off the court like Yao...

Sad but true, Houston is doomed to play 4 on 5 on defense for a long time...

It's amazing people still think Lin cannot be traded, after what happened with the Knicks.

You forgot how brutal the criticism Yao got from many fans on this board. I guess time does heal everything;) And btw, Lin is already a better person than Yao off the court.

Yao's first year here wasn't exactly stellar either. Just saying.

Don't forget there's also the Jeremy Lin Foundation giving grants to nonprofit charities in the Houston area.

Most team revenue, probably 95%, comes from the Toyota Center box office. A profitable team has a sold out home crowd and box seats. So far the arena is almost 1/3 empty for home games. International TV revenues and jersey sales are shared among the 30 NBA teams equally.
So no, Lin does not generate a lot of money for Les.

Jeremy Lin may or may not generate a notable amount of incremental revenues for Houston (which is already one of the most profitable franchises in the league) but it definitely does help the entire NBA. I would go as far as to say any NBA player / team that has recently signed an endorsement or money deal with China / Taiwan owes a *little* something to Lin (not saying that Kobe wasn't raking it in prior to Lin's arrival).

To this end, and taking into account ALL the conspiracy theories around how the NBA is rigged, refs for important games are told by Stern prior to to the game who to let win, etc. etc., I am surprised that the Rockets, and Lin specifically, does not get more star treatment

The Rockets, with or without Lin, are one of the easiest teams to root for in the NBA and a strong post season run would mirror the type of underdog, overcome all adversity story that Lin delivered by himself during his Linsanity period last year. I would think that with Lin's impact on the business side of the game that someone would have told the refs (if the conspiracy theories are true) to take care of Lin and call some damn fouls every time he is hacked in the face (probably gets a call 50% or less of the time when he comes up bleeding).

    Anyhoo, take note Stern!

ideally, lets get Yao out of retirement, bring in Yi Jianlian, former laker sun yue, former mav wang zhizhi, and keep lin, then we'll have a championship calibre team...fine chandler can play too

I shake my head at some of the responses on here. Morey will not hesitate to trade him if he finds the right deal. You're all acting like Lin can't ball or something. He's been misused the entire year and still put up respectable numbers. If it were that easy to make money from the Asian market, why are there not more Asian players in the league?

Because most of them suck and are not even marketeable.
I am not saying he is bad, i am saying he is not the right man for the job here at houston, he will be great as a third scoring option in a team with two potent scorers, but not here where he is asked to do a lot more than that.
Lin should be given the treatment Parker was given in 2004 to 2006 when he played behind Duncan and Ginobili. And was used to attack early before he defense sets or wait the open jumper.
But in Houston he is the second scorer and he clearly cannot handle the focus the defense gives him in that role.
It´s not like last year when teams didn´t even bother to scout him because they thought he will ultimatelly cool down.

I'm one of those Asian overseas Lin fan who has bought Lin merchandise and regularly stream Rockets games. I support Lin because I like him as a person and like his style of basketball. Even when Yao was around, I took little interest in Yao because his style of play never inetersted me, though I respect what he did for raising the image of Asian basketball players. Jeremy looks like a regular Asian guy, and gives hope to the average Asian kid who might want to take up the game.

I don't think Lin will ever be up there with superstars like Kobe, Lebron, Durant, etc., but he's a solid PG ,playing as hard as he can, when he's on the court and conducts himself impeccably off-court and goes out of his way to do charitable work in the community he is in. That's why I like Jeremy. He's one of the NBA's good guys yet he gets treated like vermin by SOME Rockets fans, which is no slight Jeremy, but more a reflection of the hateful attitude of some 'fans'.

This is the reason why Lin should always start and play 40 mpg, money talks. Screw the rest of the team!

    Lin's presence boosts Harden's scoring.

Why do you think Harden has been struggling?
