No, the essence of an assist is helping a player get an easier shot off. What if Lin passes to an iso situation where Stoudemire faces up on his man and drives to the rim? They aren't changing the rules of an assist for Jeremy Lin I know that. I guess what I constitute as an assist may not be what the box score keepers do.

 

That's someone creating his own shot, so how would that even constitute an assist?
