You didnt watch the MN game. Once again, Lin had been overlooked because every coach in this country is looking for a super athelete like derrick rose. Once again, if you still dont realize Lin is not a me first player and thereby cannot be judged by how much he scores, you need to watch more basketball.
dragic is way better than lin, i agree, that's why he played many more games than lin in the league, he 's just always had a fluke other than that 20+ pt quarter
I watched the Minnesota game. I would expect a player who is not a me first player to shoot the ball less than 24 times..... That is a LOT of shots. His turnovers are almost mirroring his assist numbers..... So what exactly should I go by?
you want sample size? forget about this 5 games. in Lin's 43 games in his nba career so far, lin has had a PER of 20 compared to Dragic's 13.5 for his career and 9.8 for his first 55 games. I'm not ready to say Lin is NBA elite. but i really have a hard time seeing how is dragic cleary better than Lin. what more do you need to see Lin do before you consider him dragic equal? please don't say he needs to score 24 in the 4th quarter against the spurs. be objective and fair.
Spooner you keep saying "..he doesn't deserve it, he doesn't deserve the hype", but he does deserve credit for leading his team to a 5 game streak, even if some of them are against bad teams. Knicks were losing to teams like the 3 win Bobcats, Suns, Bucks, Raptors, Cavs, and this was WITH Melo and Stoudemire. Before Lin got significant minutes, they were on a 2-13 terrible run with only wins against the Bobcats and Pistons. D'Antoni was about to get fired. After he got real minutes, they go 5-0 with Melo AND Stat out at the same time. That's unbelievable and he's obviously doing something right.
You said you watched game, but sounds like we watched different games. He was 7/12 in the first game. In the second half, he went for 1/12. He wasnt look for his in the second half, but he would get the ball back with less than 5 seconds and forced to something. I ounted he took at least 3 to 4 shots, or maybe more, as a result. Now he certainly is not Wall, Rose, Wade. Those guys can sink forced shots with their atheleticism. Lin will never be those guys and he shouldnt be compared with them. Could an elite pg be someone with so so atheletic ability but exceptional play making kills and bball IQ. I will leave that question to you.
Do you know how PER works? Why don't you check Lin's game log. The only other time he was given meaningful minutes this season he went 3 for 9 in 20 minutes. The only reason I bring up Dragic's 24 point performance is to give light to the fact that people have their moments, and then they are ultimately forgotten. In a comparison between the two, I was stating that Dragic has been hot before as well, just as most any NBA player will have their moments. The chances of Dragic repeating that performance is not likely. Just as it isn't in the realm of rational thought to expect Lin to stay on this current pace. Hell, Raymond Felton looked like an all star in D'Antoni's system, and now no one seems to think he is anything special.
You can't convince me that he has high bball IQ until he cuts down on the ungodly amount of turnovers he has amassed.
What does that have to do with anything? D'Antoni needs a point guard for his system. He got one. You don't think the fact that his run was against subpar defensive teams (to put it nicely) had anything to do with his scoring output?
You have to remember he is essentially a rookie or close in terms of game experience, starting and playing heavy minutes in an expedited season with all the pressure on him without any of the top scorers in the lineup. So he has such a high useage rate that turnovers will happen in the learning curve. He does so much more good than bad, he gets a pass but still have to improve. So while your logic is linteresting in overlooking his contributions so easily, I advice you to use your lintelligence and not dismiss what I stated above as his turnovers are not linexplainable. He is not linvinceable, but what he is doing is still linecredible and his lintangibles are keeping the knicks linning and its quite linspirational to watch.
You come off as so bitter and dramatic man. Yes he's averaging 4.2 turnovers in the last 5 games, but Westbrook averages 4.3 for the season, and has 6 turnovers every other game. Obviously Lin isn't on Westbrook's level, but compare Lin's 8 assist average for the streak to Westbrook's 5.7...and he has Durant on his team. Westbrook has proven himself and is a top 5 or so PG, but he still turns it over a lot. Cut him some slack in his 4th start ever
LLike I have said in another thread, many of his turnovers were results of his trying to the right thing. Of course thats not something to be cherished about him and you certainly can say he is very inexperienced, which is not his fault, and I would agree. But the turnovers are not an indication of his inferior ball handeling skills or low bball iq. They were not made because he dribbled too much while running out of ideas. Up until now, he has been mostly been used as a dummy in the practice. Now he is given the ball to distribute, llok for him to communicate with his teammates about their sweet spots like he did with Chandellr the other day and get to practice more. I expect he will cut down his to once he gets his experience and practice under his blt. Again the TOs Are not sth innate with the style of his play.i
You have to also remember, he's not (or wasn't a great shooter), like Steve Nash or Chris Paul. He also doesn't posses the type of passing ability (or court vision) as say Jose Calderon, Ricky Rubio, or Andre Miller. Rubio went super high in the draft, he's doesn't posses great athleticism nor does Deron Williams. He's good at different things, but not really exceptional at one thing. It doesn't mean he cannot be a good player, but you can see why he didn't go very high. There are areas he can certainly improve in.
I actually liked some of his passes evev though leading to turnovers. You gotta love a pg make dicey passes using a good vision, showing he is thinking one step ahead. Dantoni must feel the same way.
shooting is not sth cannot be improved, nash honed his shooting with dirk in dallas. I am not so sure his passing not up there with the guys mentioned. The kid can see things and think ahead. He needs experiece and practice to play with the rest of guys more
I agree with you, although the turnovers are the main proponent for his usage rate being so high to begin with. I am happy for Lin. I'm just not happy about the clear overblown reaction to all of this. There is no reason to compare him to Yao. That just seems a little insulting. No reason to claim he is a star or future all-star based on less than a handful of games. It is entirely too soon to compare him to either Kyle or Dragic. No reason to bash our management for this. The media has turned him into Tebow part 2, but what can you do.... he is in NY after all, where it is quite easy to sensationalize things. Perhaps I'm misunderstood here. I don't have an issue with Lin. It is indeed inspiring to see an undrafted player have an impact in this way. He looks to become a solid player in the league. My question to all of you is this. Given the direct correlation between NY and the Houston Rockets future, are you ultimately happy that the Knicks are winning right now?
