Policy response is an entirely different debate. The question you quoted was whether there was evidence of material impact. I believe that the data is sufficient to raise legitimate questions of fair treatment from the Asian community. And the Jewish community had a similar population disparity during the period of the "jewish" quotas. That doesn't make it any more "fair" than the current disparity. Let's put it this way, if the White, Black or Hispanic community was seeing this kind of enrollment disparity, would the reactions still be the same?
Fair enough. Obviously as a Rocket fan I have been frustrated with his ups and downs this season also. That is reasonable. Very few fanatics suggest that he has all star level talent. Defenitly ignore them. However this previous game, I have a hard time putting any blame on him. He was a net positive.
Because asians are smart and work/study hard? Their parents didnt immigrate to America so their kids can sell drugs on the streets. And how does it matter if asians are only 5% of the population? Its the number of asians that reached the score that counts and within this number, less asians are accepted than whites, states the article. But but but its not racism
Lin played well overall. Hope he keeps it up. Hope the gloom and doom feeling about Lin playoff performance will fade away forever (wishful thinking).
We face a sort of reverse-discrimination. Affirmative Action policies actually hurt us. Asians generally have to out-achieve other races (including whites) when "affirmative action" (aka. racial quotas) are in place. I think there is a general pervasive truth to this in society as well. The "model minority" myth etc. We are "meek" and "weak" and "unathletic". Jeremy Lin is "deceptively quick", a "fluke" etc. This pales in comparison to what blacks had to suffer through but it is there nonetheless. So some Asians might be little sensitive to the "meek"/"nerd" stereotypes (myself included) and I think more people should just understand that a little bit. So when an "normal" Asian athlete (Yao was a genetic freak!) comes along, he is going to get a lot fans - a lot who may be a little hyper-sensitive (like myself). We also shouldn't throw the race card around without good evidence. I'm not sure that transpired in this thread to cause this personal war so I'm not going to comment about that. But sometimes you have to walk in someone's shoes a little bit to understand where they might be coming from.
That's like saying if the NBA were to cap Black players at 50% of the league, that would be okay because Blacks are only about 11% of the population anyway.
i don't care if lin does good or bad, or for that matter, anyone on the rockets does good or bad, WE NEED TO FU****** WIN THIS SERIES!! OMG WE GOTTA WINNNN THIS SERIES!!!!
Thank you for listing them. Many others including myself see it, do you? Take a step back and ask yourself: Do I enjoy seeing Lin fail? You probably won't admit it, but the vibe we get from your posts is that you would rather see Lin fail than succeed at the expense of the team. You can call yourself a true rockets fan all you want, however, your sarcastic and bashing posts, not criticisms, don't align with your love for the team.
That's a good analogy. For the record, there are some legitimate counter arguments to that, but using "over-representation" of a particular ethnic group as evidence for fair treatment is not one of them. Back to basketball talk... Kind of moot since we all know Bev is back, but just wanted to point out I don't think Lin plays his best without Beverley. IMO, Lin plays his best in the starting lineup without Harden (which obviously won't happen, so unfortunately for Lin he's just going to have to keep trying to improve at complementing Harden's game). And if anything, Lin also plays some of his best ball when he's with Bev.
Why? So you hate everyone who is a fan of Jeremy Lin? Or did you mean to say LOFs? I hate LOFs too, as much as I hate the LOFHs who are just sitting here to make war with the LOFs in order to stir up the pot. But I do not have to tell the whole world about it because I know no one cares about my feelings towards these people. Just like no one cares about what you feel too. By the way, I did not say specifically that you are a LOFH so please don't be sensitive about it .
Rename the thread to the Official Clutchfans Lin Derangement Diary so all Lin haters have a place to vent. It seems like they need it. The way some of these posts read, the worst nightmare for Lin skeptics to LOHs would've been if the Rockets had won Game 1 with Lin getting the credit for making the big shots in OT.
To be fair, CometsWin has complimented Lin when he plays well. In fact, even some of the worst "Lin haters" on this forum (bias aside) would probably rather he succeed if it helps the Rockets succeed. But then I haven't been around long enough on this forum to accurately assess every single poster, so maybe I'm just being overly optimistic
Funny story, at the game yesterday there was this guy sitting behind me who kept saying they should but Lin back on the bench, so everytime Lin would score me and my friend would just stare up at the guy while he cheered his heart out.
For the purposes of my point (which was about your credibility on this board), I only need to show your unfair bias in regards to Lin and the strong correlation it has to race. Your unrelentless bashing of Lin has been well documented in this thread and many others. The hypocrisy of your sympathetic views towards one race and the insensitive views towards other races reeks of "BOF". Your views on the systematic victimization of African Americans: Conversation with your stance on the Asian American "plight", or lack thereof: Yao Ming Lovers and Yao being overrated: Where have we seen this before??
