You seriously need to work on your reading comprehensions. Let me try again and spell it out for you. I will even number them so you know what order. I am such a nice guy!

    1. Omer Asik is a top 10 center. Definitely top 5 in defense and a very good rebounder. He is worth A LOT to teams because having a center like that is very hard to come by. Due to the value he has at his position, lots of teams want him. On the Rockets, he is an incredible defensive presence and along with Howard, shut off opposing front courts. If we can make the offense work with him in it, we are an incredible contender. Therefore, to the Rockets from a W-L standpoint, it is in our best interest to make that lineup work. If things work and we start winning, Omer is happy and Rockets are happy.

    2. We have Patrick Beverley. He is a solid PG that plays a very boisterous D. This can set a very strong defensive statement to start the game. Statistically speaking, there is barely any drop off going from Lin to Beverley and at a fraction of the cost no less. I am not saying he is better than Lin as I honestly believe Lin is a better PG. Lin can make plays that Bev has yet to show being capable of. That said, the situation with our starting lineup does not need the PG position to make plays. This leads to my next point, point #3. You are still with me right? You can read and count this high right?

    3. In case you forgot, we have this superstar on our team named James Harden. He is only arguably the best SG in the game and easily a top 10 player in the league. He also loves dominating the ball at the 2 spot and enjoys playing point. He is almost as good at it as Lin and IMO, by far a better PnR player. He does not need a ball dominant PG guard to get in his way.

    4. In the front court, we have the cluster**** on that is Howard and Asik. While an immovable and impenetrable fortress made of our modern Twin Towers is certainly daunting on D, they are severely limited on O. Asik's offensive game involves open layups and dunks and half his free throws while Howard's game comes from the PnR if he wants to run it, alley hoops, putbacks, and occasionally successful post moves. Basically the range of their firepower is extremely limited. For a team that already features a penetrating specialist like Harden, Lin becomes further redundant.

    5. Finally we come to Lin. Is he a better PG than Bev? I think so. Is he a good PG? I don't think so, at least not yet. He is an average to above average PG who has shown flashes of being great, but so have countless others before him. He is a willing and good passer and underrated defender, but he is also a PG whose style relies heavily on ball dominance. Meanwhile, an absence of a playmaker to run with our secondary is absent. Bev has not been able to fill that void and nothing about our remaining players will be able to either. It makes great sense to play him with the secondary and offer a playmaker presence at all times.

    6. Lastly, there is the matter of benefit. Lin is a smart guy and wants to win. Complaining and getting traded to some lousy team desperate enough to take a gamble on him may make him look better as an individual player, but that's like playing wannabe star in Sacramento. If he does complain and ask for a trade, who can we realistically trade him to? He has a pretty lousy contract and is obviously not a franchise talent. There was a reason the Knicks let him go for Felton even after Linsanity. This does not make Lin a scrub, but he is who he is and that's not a PG that teams would actively want. It does zero good for Rockets to trade him as he really has no trade value outside being a magnet for overseas investment. If he complains enough he might be able to force a trade assuming there is a team that actually wants to trade for him and offer something the Rockets will consider worth the hassle.

I am not pissing on Lin. I am being realistic about him. I simply do not see him the same way his fans see him as a basketball player. To me, Lin is more influential as Lin the cultural icon than Lin the basketball player. With his contract and production thus far, he is not any sort of special commodity in the league. If he was, we would have traded him for a disgruntled all-star caliber PF already.

    Plenty.

Bias/preference is everywhere in life. I know Lin has to accept and has to say "OK", because he's a professional. I believe McHale's handling was wrong, and I can actually relate to such situation. As I brought up a few times about being taken away the right and responsibility after having led projects to initial success, because I personally experienced such "pure business decision".

I used to work for an investment bank, and had the opportunity to lead an international project from scratch. After 15 months of hard work, that project was a big success and caught lots of visibility inside of the organization. After all the hand shake, pad on the back, bonus and some parties, this project got the nod to further expand, and I was so excited about the bright future. I really felt I did something right, at the right time, at the right place. Then, my boss decided (or was directed) to create another title/role and give that to another guy, to take over control of that project. He had a "sincere" conversation with me, stating how the situation changes, the new challenge (the new project I was assigned) was so important and my experience was so just made for that. That new project really "needed" me. I told him that the current one was almost like my baby, and I didn't want to leave it. But he's the boss, he makes the call, and I am a professional, so I was "OK" with it. Of course, he praised me, and emphasized again and again I should not take it wrong.

Being a professional, I still worked hard at the new project. But I updated my resume and sent it to recruiters. 2 months later, I signed contract with one of the competitors, and gave my boss 2 weeks of notice time.

During exit interview, we all said very nice things to each other, and even had a drink together afterwards. We all knew what it was really about - he didn't show any loyalty to me, and he shouldn't expect any from me.

Whether it was race related, or simply playing favors, or even directed by high-ups, it's no longer important. Only result matters

Thanks to at-will employment, I only needed to pay lip service that I was "OK" with the treatment, and I didn't have to suck it up. I have been doing well and happier.

The whole thing us fans are mad about is Mchale never even get Lin a chance to fail before demoting him.. The season did not even start yet for the Rockets and he's already benched.

There are lots of players in NBA aren't playing up to their contract. But i agreed that beverley is probably a better fit next to all the current starters.

I am not saying that there aren't and there definitely are many. That does not help bring up Lin's trade value in any way though. If Lin played like Linsanity, there would be no reason to trade him and an endless supply of teams to trade him to. The fact of the matter is, as a player, Lin is not worth trading for.

I'm sure others have mentioned this already, but from what I see in the preseason, Lin just can't operate nearly as well with Asik/Howard as he can when only one is on the floor. If Asik is starting, Lin is a horrible match because he can't operate like Harden in tiny spaces, since he can't ram over people like Harden does. :)

I think we'll see games where Beverley close games when the Rockets want defense during crunch time with Asik/Howard. And we'll see Lin close games when the Rockets want offense by going small ball(Parsons/Garcia/Casspi at PF).

You watch and I can bet all my money on it when Lin starts getting hot ( throws 3 threes in a row). Mchale will yank him out. Now that he has less pressure on him to perform maybe we will see some of that luck he had in New York.

I will say this, if our SG was Martin instead of Harden, Lin would definitely start over Bev. It is because we have Harden in our starting lineup that I believe we are starting Bev.

You fans really need to just get it through your heads that McHale is allowed to make a change that he thinks is best for the team. There's no rule that a coach should not make a starting lineup change unless the the starter "failed". There's also no rule that a coach owes it to his starters in the previous season to retain them as starters in the next season.

Most players want to start, and fans generally want their favorite players to start. But a coach shouldn't let that dictate how he sets up his rotation.

What do people expect Lin to do? Moan and curse McHale and management? He's got a guaranteed contract and playing on a real solid team. As a Lin fan, I'm very happy for him at this junction of his career. The right thing for him is to play the cards dealt to him now and take things as they come. It's a long season so anything can happen....shoot don't feel sorry for Lin - he's just inked $25 million plus a few endorsements. If you are a team player, I would feel more remorse for Parsons and Beverley.....they are both playing for minimum wage (in terms of basketball $$$). My bet is that in two years, Lin will be back in the NY or LA....

I still shake my head every time I see how much Parsons and Beverley are making. It is hilarious how both TJones and D-Mo make as much money each than both of them combined basically.

McHale Loves to torture his PG

After Lowry, Dragic and Lin, Bev. will be the next.

    26-5-2012

Unless there are major changes, Kyle Lowry wants out of Houston
    http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports....ajor-changes-kyle-lowry-wants-out-of-houston/

That sound you hear is the sound of 29 teams’ GMs heads whipping up like German Shepherds when there’s a loud noise. Houston Rockets “should-be-All-Star” Kyle Lowry sent a message loud and clear through the Houston Chronicle. He has a problem with Kevin McHale, he has a problem with how minutes were split with he and Goran Dragic, and unless things get resolved real quick, he wants out. Kaboom.

“I don’t think so,” Lowry, 26, said. “I honestly think it would be tough. Things have to be addressed. The situation would have to be addressed.

“If things aren’t addressed coaching-wise, I guess I have to be moved.”

I don't agree with the poster you responded to. And I agree that the coach has the right to decide the starting lineup. But that's doesn't seem to be a common practice to change your starters unless (1) the starting lineup has proven to be not working, or (2) the new starter is obviously a better player (like Howard over Asik).

Neither of these two conditions is true. There is just not enough time to show either way. The "Beverley fits better" reason is valid in theory. But people act like it is proven fact. Nothing has played out.

I am not against experimenting. I welcome the twin towers experiment. It's fine to experiment with Beverley starting. But it has NOT been proven that starting Beverley is better for the team than starting Lin. It's just a theory, albeit a reasonable one.

They are still on their rookie contracts but don't worry, Beverley will definitely be getting a raise and after this season Parsons is getting paaaaaaid.

Let's just hope nobody outbids the team for either of these two.

Odd, where did Dragic get mad at McHale? If anything, McHale got him $30mil from the Suns.

Also, Lowry was "tortured" by Lionel Hollins before coming here.

    http://blogs.commercialappeal.com/the_memphis_edge/2010/10/grizzlies-rewind-kyle-lowry-for-cash.html

And he was "tortured" by Dwayne Casey after he left.

    http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/53100/kyle-lowry-has-something-to-prove

If you don't actually follow Rockets/ex-Rockets players besides Lin, don't try to comment on them. Or if you do comment on them, at least pretend to do some research so you don't come off severely biased. Lowry was an awesome player. Much better than Lin when healthy(even counting Linsanity). But he always had trouble with coaches.
