I don't think it's kneejerk. If you're an opposing team playing the Rockets in the next few weeks, the scouting report better say to look out for Lin's 3pt shot. As soon as that happens, Lin can start reaping the benefits.
Ye agreed. But he doesn't strike me as the type to force bad shots though seeing as he will never have a shooters mentality. Have you ever seen him do that? Just curious. Like I have seen him pass up shots but not forcing.
He only forces when he's really feeling it, the shot often falls when he's confident. I do have concern of him forcing his lay ups. he's doing better keeping the ball alive now, but sometimes he still just jumps up and don't know where to pass the ball to or having to force the shot up. He should learn more from Harden on drawing the fouls and learn some basics about protecting himself while doing a layup. He falls almost every time he goes up for a layup even no one is touching him.
Jeremy sets up others but nobody sets up Jeremy for the three pointer. Jeremy has to do a lot of penetrating and dishing. Unlike Delfino who pretty much is looking to shoot treys, Jeremy expends a lot of energy in other areas. If all he did was shoot threes, I am sure he would shoot for a much higher percentage.
Anyone noticed the following trend? JLIN 3PT% Nov: 26.3% Dec: 29.2% Jan: 32.7% Feb: 50% I see numbers going up month after month. With that said, Lin's never been much of a 3PT% during his career. Believe it or not, he's actually shooting better from 3 this year than with Linsanity on the Knicks. Knicks: 32% Rockets: 32.5% So Lin is actually having his best year from 3PT. In college Lin was 33.3% over 4 years. I don't see Lin ever becoming a 3PT specialist, but like others said, if we can get to league average, which is about 36%, he'll be fearsome to say the least. This is especially so with Harden as his backcourt mate.
His shot does look fixed. Maybe shooting with his pal Curry helped him. He finishes with his wrist and poses after the shot, ala Harden. Follow through is key. He also lowered the arc, he used to shoot to the rafters.
All we need him to do is shoot around 35%. Just enough to be respectable. I think he will shoot around that by the end of the season. His confidence in his jumper has increased drastically. I remember before he was scared to even shoot.
IMHO it came with Lin's knee recovery and improving 3pt%, kinda feeding off each other, gradually he is becoming more confident and concentrated when shooting the 3s lately.
Not taking a shot at your assessment on his D, but the stats he is more than solid and much better than the 'below average' assessment of most others http://www.nba.com/hoop/the_devil_is__the_dtails_2013_02_05.html Asik is #2 and Lin is #19 as candidates for defensive player of the year
Lin's arc is fine imo. Both Nowitzki and Jamal Crawford are 2 guys I can think of off the top of my head with very high arc on their shots and both are terrific shooters.
I hope so because it would mean that he is good enough to be a point guard of a contending team. His shooting was the only thing holding him back.
Nice stats. I agree with you, anywhere from 35-40% would be good enough. He's going to get a lot of good looks that he didn't get in his short run on the Knicks, so I wouldn't be surprised to see him reach that range. Guess he didn't need those people who were making excuses for him saying he shouldn't shoot off the catch. Just have a little faith On top of the improved shooting, I feel like he's improved on his passing a lot too, less and less errant passes.
Lin is going to be an all star next year. A legit one not cause fans in china vote for him. Mid to upper 30% from 3. Mid to high 40% overall. If he works on his runners near the bucket he's an offensive juggernaut.
His confidence must be on the rise after seeing them 3s go in especially when him and Harden were clutch.
This has been a large portion of my defense of Lin during his lowest moments as a Rocket. He was always going to struggle having come back from that injury and changing teams. I am not saying I wasn't at all worried, but I did expect that his 3pt percentage would settle around 32-33... which would be decent considering the poor start. He is surpassing even my best case though in terms of long distance shooting here recently, so I do agree with others expecting him to settle around 35 for the long term. He has pretty good technique and seems like a hard worker, so that seems reasonable.
