That's why Toney Douglas, Mike Bibby, and Iman Shumpert were such studs in NY running point for D'Antoni last year, right? Jeremy Lin definitely has talent. He wasn't merely good in D'Antoni's system; he was SENSATIONAL. He had people like Magic Johnson comparing him to Steve Nash and John Stockton. Furthermore, he was a decent PG in Mike Woodson's system as well. Lin's not a one-dimensional, one-system PG. Right now, he's not being used properly, but things will work out.
I disagree last year teams new who he was because he was scouted. The Lakers, Mavs, heat, Celtics every team scouted him I know that because the teams said as much & because everyone was talking about him players wanted to be ready. He was no surprise trust me. Dantoni's system is PNR & shooters that is pretty funny because every NBA team runs a variation of MDA's system. The PNR is the most utilized set in the NBA & Lin is great at it so ideally that skill set transcends the "dantoni system" narrative. And this MDA system is the same one where Nash became a two time MVP. The thing though is that in Houston Harden is using all the pnr plays none are being run for Lin. Pretty odd. His finishing at the rim going into todays game was 61% I am curious at to on what planet that is mediocre. The floater is not a good shot to take because it doesn't get you to the FT line. It may look pretty sure but it isn't a great shot. He is our best transition player.
Well it did. I was sitting 5 rows from the floor, and you could see and hear the frustration coming from Harden. I'm not saying there's beef between the two, but just another indicator that this will take a while to build.
i'll tell you what's wrong with Jeremy Lin. it's Omer Asik. the PnR isn't effective because Asik can't play above the rim. Lin feasted last year because of Tyson Chandler's ability to catch the ball in midair and throw it down. Asik simply catches it flat footed and then stops to look to pass. defenders don't respect Asik's offense so it's a lot easier to collapse on Lin.
Harden is an excellent finisher, and he is making a lot of tough shots look easy. But, it doesn't make him a better decision maker than Lin. I think Lin has been doing OK. People are just expecting too much from him, and that is why they are frustrated.
Mark Cuban got it right when he said Lin needs the right system and the right personnel to be a good player.
Jeremy is a Rocket. Why the hate? Just wait and see. The Jeremy hype was a result of the hunger for someone different from your typical NBAer and he is being punished for it? Lin will average his stats by year end. Book it.
I really hope you did your research before saying all this. You have to look into last season's stats to have any sort of understanding of his game because right now, the sample size is just too small to make any logical judgement. And the funny thing is, Last season he shot 48% off dribble, which is good for top 5 among PGs. He's finishing around the rim at a good clip, not elite, but good enough. He's also surprisingly better at half court than on fast breaks according to Haralabos. Your eye test of 8 games doesnt mean anything comparing to 25 games of detailed statistical analysis. Give it a season you might have a case --- but right now, nobody knows.
Yeah I am wondering about this. I think that he can figure things out well with Harden in Houston though. Right now he is playing OK aside from his scoring touch that is the thing that is really messing him up.
Lin is showing damn good hustle out there and aside from a few lapses where he gets caught on screens, he is a good defender and makes smart defensive plays. Offensively, he is in purgatory, he rarely gets to actually direct the team, which he came into the season preparing to do, plus his issues with scoring over the last few games, the only consistent numbers he seems poised to have are steals and rebounds. Lin is showing improvement in his overall playing especially for a team with less consistent weapons then the Knicks had when he went off last season and handling the ball less but his scoring issues of late are a concern.
Only score 4 points and the Rockets still win... I'll tell you what though, his defense is way better than it was last year, like for real...
Most players do. Prime example? Mayo. There's night and day difference in terms of performance comparing to his gloomy days in Memphis.
I keep hearing people say this and I get confused. Why would Jeremy be better starting a play instead of finishing it? Is it because he can't shoot to save his life or because he has Magic Johnson playmaking ability? Jeremy is an NBA player. He's gotta be able to contribute regardless of not being "used properly". Look at Jason Kidd. He's 40 years old and is still able to run a team.
That's nonsense. Tell that to OJ Mayo who is having a break out year in Dallas or Darren Collison as well. A players is only as good as there coach lets them be. Look at steve Nash it wasn't until he was used properly in Pheonix was he able to thrive.
you all will be bandwagoners when a young kid like lin gets better. it's all a work in progress and it's been the beginning of the year.
Couldn't make out a lot of words, but the gist of it mainly occurred when they were setting up the offensive sets. For example, Jeremy moved in a certain direction with the ball and James would yell out the motion that had been decided on coming out of the timeout. Then jeremy would get this pained look on his face (my interpretation was that jeremy was thinking 'my bad') and then set it back up again. This happened quite a few times, particularly in the second half. Harden is freakin intense though.
I just find it hard to believe it's the system when it's things like not being aggressive enough and missing wide open shots.
