Really, that kinda sums it up. We need more than just the starting 5 to play well to make a deep run. The top contenders have depth and we have to match intensity minute for minute.
Lin is obviously a flat out way better player, that is not in question, never was. Starting lineup just needs a guy (bev) that gets the hell out of harden's way.
Here's my thing...I'm a Lin fan so my bias is with him. I really do think that Bev is a good fit (better) with this Rockets team. His skills are different than Lin's and he brings something that the remaining starters do not. On the other hand, there is no question in my mind that Lin was a better fit with the Melo-less Knicks team and that Beverly would not have been able to do what Jeremy did in that situation.
They are two INCREDIBLY different players with two INCREDIBLY different skill sets, which is why (1) we are frequently at our best when the two of them play together, and (2) these unrelenting pissing contests about who is clearly superior are so useless.
Not at all. Lin is a better scorer but when you take intangibles into question it changes the dynamic. Nobody respects Lin because he plays scared on the court and isn't a leader. Bev will get after guys and has no fear on the court. Harden and D12 respect that. Lin is a guy who needs to come off the bench with no pressure on him and that's why he doesn't perform (or skips) the playoffs. I expect him to skip the playoffs again this year despite playing
I was commenting on another poster's opinion of the 2 players. Just using that as an illustration to both defend and refute his opinion based on circumstance.
That's a fair statement. Individually, Lin is more talented than Beverley. So if you were to build a team from scratch, you would go with Lin. However, in terms of adding pieces and role players to a team that already has an all-star or superstar as it's core base, Beverley would fit a lot more than Lin because Beverley's game complements all-stars and could adjust his game around them. Of course, since neither players are good enough to be a 1st or 2nd option on a championship caliber team, teams won't look at them in terms of whether they are the core of their franchise but instead whether they could complement the core of the franchise.
I think all 30 nba teams would choose Beverley over lin. You can find guys like lin who can score all over the league and your going no where if he's the best player in ur backcourt anyways. Beverley can fit with any team and when u take in the money no one would take lin over Beverley.
This is nothing against bev, I like bev. He's a different player. Lin is a big time pressure player. He has played exceptionally well in the fourth quarter for the rockets this season (when he actually gets to play). He's always made huge winning plays in those tough playoff style games. You can reference games like vs Pelicans, vs Denver in OT, vs Toronto in OT, vs Portland in OT just to name a few
I'd say he's has moments of great play, not always. If he had more consistent great plays we would have nearly as many arguments here.
Beverly is so much better than lin. The question is what will the Rockets do with lin's huge contract.
