That was obviously a bad sign and a desperate one imo. We signed him before Harden and Howard came to Houston. But at that time, Rockets had NO ONE. No superstar wanted to come to Houston and the Rockets needed to sell tickets to keep Yao fans. After the performance in NY, it made sense to try to pry him away and the only way to do that was to overpay. I think Lin would actually be putting up better numbers if we didn't have Harden as they both have similar roles but Harden obviously plays it way better. There were instances when Harden was out and Lin excelled in his absence. I would trade Lin in heart beat as he just doesn't seem to fit this team's mold. However, I just think the expectation for him is a bit absurd for someone who is maybe the 4th/5th scoring option on this team and our backup PG. Either way, I get it, he is Asian so he will get talked about regardless.
Good post. It is not Lin's fault that he is being overpaid. That falls squarely on Morey and Les' shoulders. With a sizeable salary comes great expectations.
Im on my 5th year as being an behavior specialist in the school districts. Every behavior happens for a reason, most emotional behaviors always or due to something that happen previously Here’s a list of why I feel like we see much aggression through comments with LIN vs other players 1. DRAGIC - People are salty about dragic leaving so they have VERY high expectation of lin. Dragic is having an allstar year so its just ads fuel to the fire. 2. CONTRACT - Lins $8,300,000 a yr contract, if he was on a rookie contract like jones and dmo people would say he’s performed above expectations and figuring out a way to keep him for a cheaper around $3mill a year deal. Its not many players that get paid what lin did in his 2nd. If he lived up to that contract he be an allstar. He was basically he was in a special situation because of his hype. Rookie contracts last longer, lin was undrafted. 3. DRAMA “he say she say” - Drama with LOFs, people have something to prove every time he has a bad game they wanna say “ I TOLD YOU SO” then when he has a good game LOFs want to say “I TOLD YOU SO” so its going to be a never ending battle. Also LOFs going at harden, that doesnt sit well with people so some are never going to get over it. 4. RACISM - Believe it or not racism goes into play also. Not with everyone of course. I see it a lot here with comments I see especially the Chinese shoe and the Chinese person crying. This also adds fuel to the fire.
hey, just for fun, maybe we can help him out. what should lin do when playing against top defenses who can pack the paint? 1. keep your dribble alive! and if you have already commited to drive in and leave your feet... 2. shoot a pull up jumper or floater! it is extremely difficult to get a lay up against these top teams, unless you have hardens strength or parsons length.
Fair assessment. I agree him being Asian plays into the hype. But what really bothers me is he finds a way to screw up, even in a limited role. If he was having bad game but playing under control and making a positive impact on the game that's one thing. But he seems to not have a clue what he's doing out there which baffles me, because I know they practice certain situations. It just comes down to making the simple basketball play, and Jeremy consistently screws this up. We've sat him, taken his starting position away, but the guy just isn't responding the way we expected him too after 2 years. The whole "if Harden & Lin didn't have similar roles" argument doesn't apply because they don't. Harden's job is too mainly score. Lin's job is too space the floor and score when needed. Though Harden makes just as many STUPID turnovers, it's expected because he has more responsibilites with the rock. In a limited role off the bench, theres no reason Lin should be turning the ball over that damn much
The racism is related to ignorance too, unfortunately some of the oldest members are ignorant too, which is sad.
he played poorly against the Clippers. let's hope he turns it around. i wish he would just shoot the damn ball sometimes instead of passing it to a random player (random could mean opposing team). I wonder if those 2 blocks early on got in his head.
Apparently the basket is racist too, tells the ball he can't go in when Jeremy is shooting and tells him to bounce off
Harden genuinely wanted to come to Houston, not only to be top dog and get paid, but to play with the Lin thinking he was on Nash or Parker's level. November 2012, who was looking forward to seeing a healthy Lin play on that level consistently?
Everybody wants and wanted Lin to succeed, except now its clear hes struggling and the REAL rockets fans want a different solution to PG. Many REAL fans are getting tired of LOFs making excuses saying that "he's injured" while Beverly is getting ready to come back from broken wrists + torn meniscus this year. And our "coach and organization and city is racist" argument is even more comical when you consider the fact that Houston EMBRACED Yao in every single way fathomable. But please, there is no way Harden thought Lin was gonna play like a future Hall of Famer (Nash or Lin). Unlike you homer fans, players actually play alongside Lin so they know that he isn't the same calibur of a player like Nash or Parker, no matter how good those free throw highlights of Lin might look like on youtube. Lin is a good player but do not make fans mock LOFs more by saying that he was the next coming of Parker or Nash
First of all. Repped. Secondly, I feel like I am talking to a brick wall with these LOF's on here. They are so engulfed with Lin, they can't see his poor play. All of us REAL Rockets Fans want him to succeed so the team succeeds. But the excuses these Lin fans make when plays bad is literally comical.
wow, i'm really surprised i expected to come and see a full blown lin bashfest and it turned out to be some of the most insightful posts on lins situation i've seen since he got here. as much as i want to see lin do well it's also so frustrating to see him play so well one night and on others look like he's never played ball before but a lot of these posts truly analyze the entire situation on a psychological level.
These are basic 101 point guard skills he still hasn't mastered. Instead when power forward or centers act as a wall in front of the basket he jumps in the air to shoot and at the last minute he try to force a pass out and turns it over. It happens every game now.
I agree with you on this. Generally I root for every Rockets player as long as they play as TEAM PLAYERS. JLin is a PG and it's on him to make the team play as a team. If he does that, he gets my blessings. I'm not interested in his personal stats.
Here's basically how CF works. Real Rockets fans are annoyed that so many posters only really care for one player on the team. This annoys them so much that they overwhelmingly criticize Lin for his mistakes or bad games. LOFs feel that these fans put a majority of the blame on Lin even if many other players struggle, and they get defensive. Real Rockets fans get even angrier that LOFs can't see his poor play and counter with more harsh criticism for Lin. And the cycle continues. It's just the way it is. It will never end. There are decent posters on both sides, but a majority of the time it's just overblown attacks on Lin, countered by (in some cases) blind defending of him. I completely agree with you. I will say this, however. If we all agree that Lin is a decent player who has contributed to the team's success the past couple years, why is there a 400 page thread entitled "Jeremy Lin is a joke!" It doesn't make sense to me.
