He can't hit the broad side of a barn because he sucks as a spot up shooter? He can't adapt to what is being required of his position because he can't he is a PG being played as an SG? Clutchfans are great at reasoning in a circle coming back to square 1 after each cycle, I'll give them that.

I'm gonna assume you are being flippant, cause I don't recall saying anything even close to that. I'm on record early on as saying I like this kid and plan on giving him plenty of time to get better cause he does have some good aspects to his game, but I also dont expect him to repeat what happened last year...unlike a large segment of our newer members who don't know what "limited sample size" means.

    I don't give a crap about Kobe Bryant...he isn't on my team.

    Your point is?

I will further chime in on this. Yesterday, I asked why Lin fans get so butt hurt when you are Criticizing his play. One person comes into my mentions telling me I am a hater and all this nonsense about God. That Lin is a young man, nobody should criticize him and that I'm being a hater because he is more famous than me.

    1. Why do I feel the need to hate him? Kobe and Lebron are way better. Why not hate their talents?
    - the person says, its because you feel that Lebron and Kobe deserve their respect and Lin doesn't.

    2. Lin deserves his due part for what he did but that does not in any case cancel out what he has done this season and the lack of left hand dribbling, dribbling in traffic, shooting, and confidence in his game. Yea, he did amazing the first 5 games, but that was the FIRST 5 GAMES. What has he really done after that?

Like how I am I the one being a hypocrite by criticizing a player for his horrible performance over HALF the season for MY favorite BASKETBALL TEAM. (I criticize the play of my favorite Derrick Rose also, I guess thats hating also.)

While you can come at me talking bout how I need to find God and that he is Gods son and you shouldn't criticize him. Blah Blah Blah, You lofs are doing the same by making excuses for Lin. Those excuses you make are criticizing others play in order to satisfy yourself that his shortcomings are due to them and not him.

I understand, Lin can play the game. That is why he is in the NBA. Do I believe he is starting material from his play thus far? NO. What about the 1st 5 games? YES. But that was 1st 5 games, not now.

If you are an NBA player. You get paid to be criticize for your play. You get paid to be loved for your play.

I also hate the fact that you say he is young and the team is young. I do not care if a player is young or old, he is getting paid accordingly to perform on the big stage. Kobe is an OLD MAN, 30 mil and still performing like he 24. Irving is 19/20 and performing like an all star. If you can play basketball, you can play. As you grow older, your game gets better indeed but its more that YOU UNDERSTAND the game better.

If you can term him an "all star" or you can vote for him being the best pg in the league then you should not have excuses for his poor performances more often than not.

At least be accurate in your critiscm. When you are a subpar shooter driving lanes are tough to find. Until he improves his shooting. He doesn't chose not to drive he just can't because teams sag off him cutting off the driving lanes. But keep on keeping.

Conley, Lowry, Kidd, Parker Rose what do they all have in common?

They all improved there shooting. It is one of the easiest things you can fix. Did they have the upside of Flip Murray? Odd that you feel that Lin can't fix that.

Oh please...that is stupid and lazy.

Are you telling me that not being able to shoot is not a concern?

and you have the nerve to call us out as being unable to reason?

Your reasoning skills are WEAK. Go back to RealGm or whatever Knick hellhole you came from and try that weak crap on them...it dont fly around here.

Lowry is the best player out of the bunch. Don't really need stats to tell me that.

Jeremy just sucks plain and simple no need to sugarcoat it. You have to be a diehard Lin fan not to see it by now. Sure he has potential, but so do alot of other players that dont even amount to anything. Hes been cut from many teams for a reason and went undrafted. He is what he is theres no magical way he will find a jumpshot. Even if Lin plays slighly better with the offence run though him that dosent mean hes worth runing an offence though him. You run your offence though superstars not scrub players.

wow this tread is officially most view and most replied thread in clutchfans. Sorry for bumping it up. I think we should all agree Lin needs to get better but he’s no joke. He played 2 guard in college, I don’t see why he can’t be successful doing that. He needs to work his ass off practicing 3 pointer. McHale needs to get a better system and use his players to their strength. Most blame should be on McHale because the goal is to win games not be stubborn like D’Antoni. Speaking of D’Antoni, what about them Lakers. I don’t like Lakers but it was beautiful Kobe actually plays team ball. I hope next year they win it out. Not that I want Kobe and Lakers to get another ring, I just want Nash to get a ring before he retires.

And I hope he does, but until he fixes his shooting, he does not deserve to be a starter.

Parker, Rose, and Kidd? Are you serious about comparing Lin to these guys?

My point is you are wrong!:p Lin shot well in the past. Great players can have shooting slump also. Besides, Lin had a knee surgery, it took the whole season for CP3 to return to form after his knee surgery.

Just because you can go both direction doesn't mean anything when someone sags you off in D daring you to shoot. I thought this was simple enough to understand.

You see how most of the times it doesn't matter if Harden goes right or left and still got blocked or TO because his defenders sagged him off? Unless you're Kobe or the other defender just doesn't defend, it won't matter which direction you drive if your defender is 3ft+ away from you daring you to shoot.

What part of spot up shooting you can't understand? And Lin playing out of position does not largely explain his struggles? Realgm? A realgm regular would have quoted you in green font!

Every player has strengths and weakness. As does every system. It's the coach's job to get it to work. Good coaches adjust parts of the system to suit their personnel, as well as foster player development to help players adjust/improve/change to fit the system better. It's not all give and no take. Simply blaming the player and not criticizing the way he's being used is too simplistic and doesn't display an understanding of the nuances of the the game.

Am I excusing his shooting woes? No, of course, he should work to get better. But it also doesn't excuse a misuse of his skill set.

Take Melo for example. He's a max contract player, an all star, an olympian, and widely acknowledged to be a top scorer and franchise player in the league.

D'Antoni tried to make him play point-forward at the beginning of last season, and Melo failed. Melo is no Lebron. Melo is a better scorer but worse field general than Lebron.

Then D'Antoni tried to make Melo into a spot up shooter, in his space the floor system, instead of playing to Melo's iso strengths. The results were similarly under-performing. Melo is not a spot up shooter.

Take a Rubio or Rondo, someone who is ball dominant, floor general, lackluster 3pt shooter, and ask him to play an off-guard spot up 3pt shooter who doesn't touch the ball, and you would blame them for being bad players. Or take Derek Fisher or Mario Chalmers and ask him to play floor general, instead of spot-up 3 pt who leaves the point-guard duties to a point-forward like Lebron, or play in a triangle system that doesn't need a real PG, and you're asking for trouble.

And yet Rondo, Fisher, Chalmers all earned championships by playing to their strengths and skillsets. But if you were to interchange a Rondo-type with a Fisher-type, I doubt the results would be the same.

This isn't about Lin or the Rockets. This is something that happens all over the league. There are differences between players, just as there are differences between systems. The way those two elements mesh determines how good the team is.

Players, especially young ones, aren't static. They can develop and it's entirely fair for teams to ask them to work on the parts of their game that the team feels they need more of during the off-season. Just as it's fair to ask coaches to tweak their systems to maximize production out of players, instead of misusing them and their skillsets. The best coaches tweak their systems to their players. You seem to demand the former and assign all the blame to the player, but deny the latter and excuse the coaching failings and their misuse of their players.

It's not all give and no take. You need both elements to mesh. That means Lin needs to improve his shooting in the off-season. And it means the coaches need to play him as a PG who runs the offense to get easier buckets for his teammates, including for Harden. Not run Lin as a 3pt spot-up off-ball SG most of the time, and then blame him for failing to adjust. Just like you don't run Melo as a point-forward or spot up 3pt shooter like D'Antoni tried, and then only blame Melo for not adjusting and changing his skillset. Nor would Rondo have a championship if he had to play in the triangle system where he's expected to be off the ball and take 3pt spot ups with the Lakers, and then blame Rondo for not being able to consistently shoot 3's and never touching the ball. Nor would Fisher have a ring if he had to play the floor general role in Boston, and then blame Fisher for not getting double doubles every game.

The criticism of the way coaches use or misuse their players is a fair one. That's why the best coaches are known for being able to get the best out of their players. Good coaching is a combination of exhorting your players to improve themselves as well as tweaking your system to suit the players you have.

    LIMITED.SAMPLE.SIZE

Learn it, love it, live it.

I never said he couldn't improve, I hope he does, but his time in NY has NO relevance to today. Maybe is you quit taking every criticism of his game as hatred and a desire to get rid of him(something else I did NOT say) you could see clearly what others are saying.

and I am not wrong, as of right now, he is a HORRIBLE shooter...right or wrong?

Too lazy to generate stats, but my biased (I want Lin to succeed) impression is he's starting to shoot the open 3-ball a little better, without hesitation. Maybe his legs are getting stronger. He is still recovering from knee surgery.

You're not seriously telling me it doesn't matter if you can dribble into either direction, are you?
