I don't think you can make the call that we overpaid for him when he hasn't even played half of a season yet.
^. I don't mind someone showing appreciation for just 1 person, until that same favoritism makes them unrightfully hate on and blame everyone else when he has bad stats.
Overpayed? He's been putting up about 15-7 or so since the first NY game. He's putting up numbers roughly Conley or Dragic level with a lower usage rate. Both are making more than Lin. You're not going to get CP3 production on what Lin is getting paid. Getting sick of hearing this "overpaid" mess when he's not even making all that much compared to other PGs producing similarly or less in some cases.
1. Only half way through the season, so WAY to early to argue if he's over/under paid. 2. 12/6 is fair value for $8.3M is fair value for a free agent PG. If he sustains that for the remainder of the season, he's not a bargain but he's not over priced. 3. He's still young, so if he improves AT ALL for the remainder of his contract, he'll be anywhere from cheap to an outright steal. As I pointed out before... These are the 2011-12 stats for PG's who will make in the $8M range this year. If you average their stats out and use them as a standard, I'd say something like 11.7 points, 4.8 assists, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.2 steals would be playing within Lin's salary range, JUST from performance. If he gets anywhere near 12/9 or 14/8 he'll be underpaid. Player: Points / Assists / Rebounds / Steals / 3PT% Mike Conley: 12.7 / 6.5 / 2.5 / 2.2 / .377 George Hill: 9.6 / 2.9 / 3.0 / 0.8 / .367 Devin Harris: 11.3 / 5.0 / 1.8 / 1.0 / .362 Jameer Nelson: 11.9 / 5.7 / 3.2 / 0.7 / .377 Goran Dragic: 11.7 / 5.3 / 2.5 / 1.3 / .337 Mo Williams: 13.2 / 3.1 / 1.9 / 1 / .389 And here are some comparative PG salary averages... PG average salaries - 2011/12 PG Rank 1-10 - 20.9 Mil PG Rank 11-20 10.3 Mil PG Rank 21-30 6.6 Mil PG Rank 31-40 3.5 Mil http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytime...n-should-make-financial-sense-for-the-knicks/ In other words, if Lin ends up anywhere between #15-20 in terms of a PG, it's fair value. If he breaks the top 15, he's an outright steal. Lin's doing fine for his contract. Asik was a steal. Harden is cheap considering the number of legitimate #1 scoring options. And they ALL still have upside...
Pretty much. I always found the hate threads for Rafer, Shane, Me-Mac, etc. annoying, but at least they were often funny and creative. And despite their hate for the one player, in the end at least it was about the team. Nowadays, it's mostly about putting down one player or coach just to prop another one up.
Mike James once avg'd 20 pts and 6 assists.... FOR AN ENTIRE SEASON.
Did he ever get paid 25 mil? I think not. Definition of overpaid.
Still wouldn't be that bad if his fans weren't around.
Mike James put up 20/5.8 for the season, it was his 7th season, and he was 31 years old. He also put up inferior rebounding, steals and block numbers to Lin. He signed a 4 year, $26M contract in 2006, or $6.5M/year. Adjusted for annual inflation of 5%, that $6.5M/year works out to approximately $8.7M/year in today's dollars. So yes, he DID get that kind of money for his contract, despite it being his 7th season and being 31 years old (at the tail end of peak age). Big Macs were $3.57 in January of 2006. In January of 2012 they cost $4.20, or a 17.6% price increase. http://www.economist.com/node/5389856 http://www.economist.com/blogs/graphicdetail/2012/01/daily-chart-3 Prices go up, so do contracts. It's a fact of life.
That is a meaningless stat, you know why? Look up the first 5 starts for some of the top players in the league and see what it translates to. More points in his first 5 starts than MJ? More than Lebron? Ok. Anthony Randolf and Gilbert Arenas had similar records too. Weighting meaningless stats like that does no good.
This might be the most overused statistic for LOFs ever. Lin at his best can be worth $10 mil. At his worst he's a vet min. player. He's so inconsistent that it is hard to tell.
Who gives a sh#t what someone does in his first 5 starts? It's all about what you do over the course of the season.
Lin isn't over paid. He usually contributes in one way or another every game. He is usually defending or passing well if he isn't scoring well. If he becomes a better 3 point shooter, he can be a very good player.
Figures, you counter by providing stats and no one responds to you. Thanks for the info on Mike James.
(just to be clear no LOF has ever said that, just poking some fun). Lin actually has been playing well (stats-wise) lately as he is averaging about 14.5 PTs and 6.8 assists since the NYk game. It's not his fault we aren't winning. If any one player were to be blamed it would be Patterson or Morris, any of our PFs as they have been a disappointment lately.
They way he's game has been limited/changed due to the new system does kinda make him overpaid because he doesn't have the PnR guy like he did during Linsanity. But don't ask for your $8 million refund just yet, Aruba! Wait until we get that rumored ~star big, because I truly believe that's all this team is missing from being great. Yeah, I hate posting in this thread. It makes me feel gross and dirty.
same group of haters as always...i look forward to a year later when all you impatient self-proclaimed experts who can predict the future end up eating crow. I also expect to see a lot of these haters will end up not posting or getting a new ID.
