The thing we need more stats on is what happens when Lin & Bev are on the court together (in a small lineup, or when Harden is off the court). It wasn't enough minutes last season to really tell anything, but that could be a good pairing.

Casual fans are attracted to star power. Lin is a celebrity and has that sort of draw. Nothing wrong with being a casual fan. A lot of people have hard jobs, kids, etc. and just don't have the time.

Lin's story goes beyond just his race too. The whole Harvard NBDL scrub to SI cover is a great story in its own right. As an Asian male I am rather sensitive to the "meek" label. I've had it thrown at it me too - when it was apparent that it was based on skin color. Unfair to jump on you for that - but there is a backstory. I am sure a lot of blacks are sensitive to certain characterizations too.

It will be a good pairing every time Lin plays with another point. As we saw he even had good chemistry with Brooks who is mostly known as a shoot first PG.

Here's something else that is not factored in. Beverley did not start playing until the middle of January. On Feb 12, Harden hurt his foot and ankle stepping on David Lee's foot. That was the last game he played before the All star break, and he was shooting 45%. After the All star break, he shot 41%, and took significantly fewer 2 point shots.

Do a comparison of Harden's stats with Toney Douglas on the court. All of them increase slightly.

Dude, I'm from NY, there is no valid reason I should be even watching a Houston Rockets game if not for Lin. I understand if I was from Texas, I'd be picking between the Spurs, Mavs, Rockets but I've never even been there. So besides the fact that I watch the Rockets for Lin, there's a lot more interesting big-media, high production interesting teams out there. I mean no offense Houston to me is not a big basketball city, even the crowds and seem a bit lackadaisical compared to the crowds in like GS, Miami, Lakers, Bulls, and Nets/Knicks. So its not that I'm only a LOF, but more that the Rockets are not my #1 team to watch without Lin so these are some of the "opinions" to take into consideration for Lin vs Beverly.

    Thank you sir.

I find it interesting that a player like Lin who seems sincerely self-aware of his status and abilities as a player ("Why can’t I just be a young player who’s shown some potential and has a lot of learning to do?") would have a fanbase rife with individuals so belligerently unaware.

More disappointing is that some of that ill-will cultivated by the clueless segment of his fanbase inevitably gets transferred to Lin himself, due to no fault of his own.

That's cool. I watch GSW, a team I freaking hate, soley for Stephen Curry and his shooting powress. I also watch the Spurs when I'm in need of perfectly executed plays. Everyone has their reasons. What I do like about Lin is all of a sudden friends who never cared to watch a game with me suddenly were interested. And now that we have Dwight Howard, they're more hyped about watching the Rockets.

That said tho, McHale's decision has to be based on what wins and not what's popular or what casual fans want. I would be disappointed if otherwise.

How ironic it is that in your ignorance you unwittingly confirm the point to which I originally alluded.

Lin deserves better fans than you.

No, not true. You said some racist stuff during the playoffs.

~lol~ analytical geeks? You mean people like Morey, Sloan conference, people who write articles for this website and posters who like to use numbers to back up their claims? Anyways, Lin was pretty confident, fearless and aggressive during Linsanity.

Wait a second. Jury still out. And sports isn't necessarily a scientific or mathematical thing, 1+1=2. The fans' preference should be respected. Just because Kobe won five times the ring AI did (or more) doesn't mean he has to have at least five times the fans as AI.

Take it easy man, it's not necessarily a bad thing. "Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth."

Puritanical name-calling? Is it really such a evil thing?

Yeah, there's something about those guys that just makes them all look the same. I can't seem to put my finger on it, though.

This applies to all players across all sports, this isn't unique to Lin. The word fan is short for fanatic & when have fanatics ever been rational?

Thank you very much, appreciated your different point of view, and I feel this is a really good exercise for me, and trying to understand the game better, and also understand the numbers better.

Somehow I feel that, stats is a really amazing thing, if you look harder, there will always be some numbers supporting your view, and if there is none, some kind of split will do that. ;) It is more important to understand the numbers than the numbers itself.

if you look at James numbers with Beverley vs. without Beverley, those numbers should cover the same games range that Beverley is in the team, thus if James was hurt, he was hurt in both cases. The FG% and 3FG% difference is till obvious. So no, it is not because James was hurt.

No if you look at James' stats chart, it two different ranges.

PBev On Games Played - 34
PBev Off Games Played - 51
JLin On Games Played - 78
JLin Off Games Played - 78

LOFers are soooo annoying...Why can't both be on the same team and play at the same time or sub for each other? You groupies got it all wrong....

real Rocket fans do not watch for a player but for the team, regardless of who's playing. You sir are the definition of an LOF

The LOFness is strong in this one

Dude, go post about it on the Knicks board or the Lin board. This is a Rockets fan board. We don't want to read you Yankees splooging over Lin all day and going after anyone that interrupts your sploogefest with reality. It's boring.

I'm a Rockets' fan but you forgot that this board is also open to other sorts of fans. Please don't be so close minded that you wouldn't want "others" opinion. At least he has let us known he's more of a Yankees fan. It's good that they're expressing their opinions. You're not forced to take his side. He didn't even disrespected any members here to warrant such treatment.
