The reason Beverley should start isn't because he is a better player than Lin but because his strengths does not overlap with Harden's, whereas Lin's strengths does.

Having Lin come off the bench maximizes both players' skillsets. Of course, this doesn't mean that Lin wouldn't be finishing games.

This is probably a very good argument for last year (although I think it is still close). With Dwight added to the team, I think that the result may be different. Now you're looking for the PG who maximizes both Dwight and Harden together. As others have pointed out (here and elsewhere), since Lin is a better passer he might be the better PG to distribute the ball with the other two players (i.e., a simple dump off to Harden is not always the best answer anymore). I'm not saying that Beverley might not be the right starting PG. I'm just saying that I'd prefer to see some games with Lin starting (since he was the starter all last year) to see if he works better with the new lineup before making a switch (if the numbers start validating Beverley as the starter).

This. Lin and Harden might work okay together, but Beverley, the better spot up shooter and defender, is the optimal PG fit next to Harden. I guess we'll have to wait till next game to see how Beverley fits into the rotation with Harden/Parsons/Asik/Howard.

the key is if we care about harden's personal #s or we care about winning. harden plays more efficiency and saves more energy when lin is next to him. it's better than he just uses volume to gain his #s. it's better for harden when a game is on the line.

does lin starting mean he is not going to play with bench? does it mean Beverley won't play alongside with harden? it's weird to see neither harden nor lin was on the court sametime last season.

to me, saving harden's energy earlier and using it when the game is on the line is the best solution for rox. you will see a lot tight games during the whole season.

Then why are we trying so hard to see if Dwight and Omer can play together when their strengths overlap even more. It's because we want to have our best five on the court as much as possible especially to start the game where you try to start off with a good lead.

Harden is always going to be on the floor. He is going to be playing a lot of minutes so the whole overlap of Harden & Lin's skill sets will always be an issue whether Lin starts or doesn't. Lin has proven that he can play well for an entire season & stay healthy which is key against other NBA starting guards. Beverly hasn't shown any of that.

Also the addition of DH12 changes everything. You have a guy that commands defensive attention alongside Harden which leaves Lin & Parsons to do there thing. Not like last year where you had teams defending Lin & harden & leaving Ppatt & Greg Smith & Omer wide open. With DH12 & harden commanding defensive attention teams are going to dare Lin & Parsons to beat them together & I am pretty confident that those guys can do that.

I totally disagree with this. I think TTNN posted an interesting analysis, and then the discussion led to TTNN posting a better analysis. The last 2 pages of this thread have almost none of the Lin rules, Lin sucks, trade Lin so he can star or because he sucks junk. I think this turned into a pretty good thread. Or at least as good as we have in the GARM.

    agreed

i think the data speaks for itself

we should try Howard and Lin starting and Harden and Beverly off the bench

i think that will be the best for the team. wroth a test at least in preseason

Everything Sheridan said about Lin has been said here numerous times. In fact, it's probably been broken down more thoroughly here.
