The Knicks are going to be seen as stupid no matter what they do.

Don't match? Then you're stupid for not locking him up before RFA hit.

Match? Then you're stupid for wrecking your cap for a marketing gimmick that can play decent basketball.

It's an emotional decision. Pure bitterness on the part of New York. They intend to try to "fool" us at the 11th hour the way we did with them, or so they think. It's childish, and crass, and completely ineffective in my mind. But that would be the intention. There's no actual benefit to saying one thing and doing another in this case.

Yes, there is some middle ground, I was just running some metaphors not to be taken literally. Anyway, Linn is good, but not as good as he was for those 27 days in NY. There is much room to grow and improve, yes, but should we have let Dragic go to then sign Lin? That is the question. Anyway, hopefully the Rockets can make the best of it.

Because of us revising the deal with Lin... And Lin sharing with the Rockets that the Knicks would match their initial offer.

I mean, even Bima seems to think this is a smokescreen by the Knicks.

You know one thing everyone seems to be forgetting is....the Rockets HAD Lin last summer. He was evaluated and was let go...FOR A REASON!.

So he had a month of a lifetime and got national play BECAUSE HE WAS IN NY...ESPN's wet-dream. He was helping the Knicks turn around a miserable season for a month.

If Lin was in Houston last season...or any other market..do you think for one second that ESPN would go Tebow like they did? Hell no!

So he had a great month....we let him go beforehand....what makes any of you think this guys is the next messiah?

I think people are so desperate for anything that they will swim in a mirage in the desert and when they find no water, they will drink the sand!!

I really don't think, ultimately, they're gonna agree to a hit that has them paying $30 million to have Lin on their roster in year 3 just for spite.

Did we forget that the Knicks said earlier in the offseason that they would match Lin up to:

I mean I don't mean to sound gullible in believing everything that I hear, but they have mentioned earlier that from a business perspective, the revenue that Lin brings into MSG (I have seen the numbers from reports) that it would outweigh any luxury tax that they would have to pay because of Lin's "poison-pill" contract.

This is not really what i wanted to see this morning. I hope it all looks different in the next next day or two.

I have a hard time believing the Knicks would be willing to put themselves in such a horrible future cap, future luxury tax and future roster situation just out of anger. Yes, it is appears possible they can fit Felton and Lin both in if they must, but it not really the optimum franchise decision.

We know they are not happy. We have already see some of their negative PR efforts coming out in the NY press this morning. New Yorkers certainly know how to spin. Plus we have the funny yet unprofessional antics of Grunwald hiding from the Rockets delivery guy. Still, this is the big leagues and the future competitiveness of an entire franchise is at stake. A very valuable franchise with a huge fanbase that has been suffering from bad management for years. There is no way they would be willing to sacrifice their future again, immediately after they just finally fought their way back from bad contract/salary cap hell, just to spite the Rockets. I don't see it.

But if they do, screw them. It will be their own fault. Again.

$30 million for the Knicks is doable. Remember that they are a very rich team.

I would guess that the value of Lin exceeds $30 million in seat sales and TV ad rates alone. There are a million Asians in NYC - MSG got a huge boost.

This kid is worth a lot of money to MSG and the Knicks.

Just heard Stephen A Smith on ESPN say why Knicks won't match. No way the Knicks pay $30 million dollars for Jeremy Lin his 3rd year.

    WELCOME TO HOUSTON JEREMY LIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For a team that's presumably just blowing a smokescreen, the negativity about Lin that "leaked" through Stephen A. and columnists in NY is not well played. We're waking up to an ESPN report this morning that NY thinks Lin got a big head and wasn't appreciative enough..and that he overplayed his injury and sat on the bench instead of helping them in a playoff push simply so he wouldn't risk his next contract.

I don't know if Stephen and the other columnists just made that stuff up or what...but if it's leaking from the Knicks, I don't think they're matching. Not a good way to build a relationship with a guy you're considering inking to a 3 year deal.

The fact that Lin did that though, plus flew to Vegas secretly to rework the contract with the Rockets should tell the Knicks he doesn't want to be there.

If I was them right now I'd be calculating how much I am going to make in revenue of this kid of the next 3 years and see how that compares to $30 million bucks.

And I think its likely that I'd decide that it was worth the $30 million to keep him.

Been told Felton deal not finalized. B/c Lin offer sheet delivered, current Felton S&T no longer works. NYK now needs to add Bibby or Baron.
