I am not certain that they match. At the extreme level the knicks are working at the tax is $4.50. That makes %10 million sound pretty scary.

He'd have to throw a fit & demand a sign & trade to the Rockets.

    Unlikely.

If Morey and Les really wanted Lin, they would not have made the 4th year a team option. They clearly didn't want Lin just wanted some media attention.

Lin has a very reasonable contract. 2 years at 5 million 1 year at 9 million which can be traded as an expiring contract smh

They'll match. It's all but certain with this offer sheet--maybe if it was 35+ million they'd start questioning things.

Kind of a waste of time for Morey to even offer this--I like making the Knicks pay up for Lin, but it's not like we're even in the same conference, nor do we have any of their draft picks anymore. Kind of pointless.

His third year is basically an expiring contract. Knicks can easily trade Lin for a trade exception or a number of different option. They don't need to pay the tax and still have Lin for 2 whole seasons

So if we know New York is going to match, why did we trade Kyle Lowry again?

Seriously, the moves this offseason have been terribly puzzling. :(

I guess if the Rockets are tanking and are getting rid of most of their players (Dragic, Lowry, Lee, Dalembert, Maybe Martin and Scola soon), then they need to worry about meeting the team salary minimum (roughly $46 M, we're about $12 M under that right now)which is why they're willing to overpay for Asik and Lin. They want to make sure they have some flexibility and make sure that these "meet the minimum" contracts don't bog them down 3 years from now. That's why the Asik deal is 3 years and why Lin's 4th year would be a team option. Dragic wanting a player option for the 4th year doesn't fit with what Morey's trying to do which is why it was a deal breaker for both sides.

NY doesn't have to pay the tax. Lin expiring contract would be easy to move before the trade deadline during his 3rd year

If, in fact, New York is sure to match, then why are we going through this dog and pony show? To drive us, the fans, completely mad?

    It's a game of salary-cap chicken.

We just called New York's bluff.

    Nuts on the dresser.

That last tweet by @WojYahooNBA is all the reason NY needs to wait until the last possible moment to match. Must punish HOU for extra $$$..
