I don't see any reason the Knicks would spend that much money on the point guard position.

He'll make his entire salary back for the Rockets in a year.

And it's only ~8mil a year cap wise.

Hmm if the Knicks do not match I wonder how this contract affects our ability to get a center (since it's going to count $8 mil a year against our cap).

The Asik deal is going to look REALLY horrible if it keeps us from getting Dwight. However, I don't think it would. Cap-wise we could still absorb two bad contracts (as long as one of them wasn't Turk), couldn't we?

    Warmly welcome Omer Asik.

    And likely goodbye Dwight Howard.

    Cap math:

    Howard + Richardson + Big Baby = $32M

I'm not sure what the Lin and Asik contracts will cost us cap-wise. Is it only like $10M or is it the average of all three years? Either way, wouldn't that still put us well below the cap as long as we were trading Martin?

It's called the Gilbert Arenas Rule, feel free to google it since we have hashed it out a dozen times already in more threads than I can even remember.

Howard + Big Baby + Richardson + Asik + Lin = $49M worst case right? Cap is $58.5M? Do we have any other GUARANTEED contracts on the payroll that we couldn't cut out of all the young guys?

I don't see this disrupting a Howard deal if my arithmetic is correct.

I've seen multiple tweet reports saying that the Rockets could still do a dwight howard trade (taking back two, possibly 3 bad contracts) if they sign Lin and Asik

I'm not buying that Morey is worried that acquiring Lin/Asik will cost him Howard deal....

If he did decide he didn't want Lin over the next three days we could always restructure to 8/8/8 for NY as I''m sure all parties involved would agree.

If we really don't want Asik after getting Lin we can always restructure his deal to be more palatable for Chicago to match, again 8/8/8.

Remember we still have to convince Howard to stay even if he does sign, that will be much easier to do with at least some players around him
