Let me propose this question. Would you guys vote for someone who had been a member of Westboro Baptist Church for 20 years?
I want to thank you, Mr. Basso for helping us see the issues involved. Very disturbing...More and more of those who Obama associates with come across as either hating America, not being proud of America, or blaming America... What is the saying, the company you keep reflects on you...? Sick...
I think they did but couldn't find much. Because the pastor and him had a lifelong relationship and he played a big role in his life.
I think Obama needs to make a statement that he didn't hear statements like that when he was at the church. If he can't do that, then that means he continues to go to this church. This shows a very poor judgment.
He did that a little while back on MSNBC. He said these kind of statements did not happen when he was at the church. If they had happened he would have said something, He acknowledges that this question will come over and over in the campaign
Well, then hopefully no one at the church bust him for that. Still, 20 years is a very long time. I think he should also tell us when he learned about Wright's hateful speeches. I don't think it was yesterday or last week.
I find that Obama claimed that he knew about this at the beginning of his campaign. If true, then why did he still let Wright be in his Religious Committee until today?
After wathcing coverage of this story for several hours this evening, it is my opinion that this is a relevant issue and not just another mud-slinging to roll ones eyes at. I find this pastor's ideologies militant, devisive, and very anti-American and it definitely makes me question why Obama would attend such a man's congregation for close to 20 years, have this pastor marry him and his wife, use this pastor's language as inspiration for his book, and most of all, actually have this man associated with his campaign. I find it very hard to believe that Mr. Obama was not privy to this kind of rhetoric until recently, but will give him the benefit of the doubt until something more substantial proves otherwise. He has definitely stuck his neck out making the claim that he was unaware of Wright's rhetoric when I can assure you that the press and Barack's opponents will be digging deep to see if there is proof to the contrary. I voted for Barack Obama in the Texas Primary recently and attended the Caucus to cast my vote twice. Tonight, I find myself questioning my allegiances not only because I find myself wondering if Barack might actually share some of these views given his long association with Mr. Wright's congregation, but also because I have to question the judgement of any man or woman running for President of the United States that maintains any association with such an obviously anti-American person.
Right, over the 20 years he was there, Jeremiah Wright only choose to make inflammatory statements when Obama is not in the church? Who is he kidding.
I have it on good record that Wright only says hateful thing about America. He wakes up in the morning and says "Gods hates America, woman, now make me some Continental breakfast".
What is bad is his poor judgment over 20 years. He had a choice to distance himself from Wright but he didn't do it for 20 years. When he is aware of this (ie at the beginning of his campaign as he admits), he still put him in his Religious Committee. These are very bad judgments. He is now also trying to spin this to his advantage. I think it will get ugly when people find holes in his spin
Again he didn't distance himself because he wasn't looking to Wright for any political guidance, but still appreciated his take on spiritual matters. It's just a guess based on what Obama said today, so I don't know.
