New episodes of Jeopardy air at 11:35 pm in Houston now. They changed it so that they could fill the previous 3pm slot with more BS...
We get it in Austin on cable, Fatty. Actually, I think we get it at least a couple of times a day. The new ones and some reruns. I watched the Watson thing and I think the two cats would have beaten it had "Watson" not had the advantage of being able to "push it's button" a lot quicker than the humans. I don't think there was one question that one of the two guys wouldn't have answered correctly (and usually both appeared to know the answer) had they been able to "ring in" quicker than the computer. By the way, I know a former Jeopardy champion who helped IBM test Watson prior to the contest. No kidding. My team plays against his on trivia night at a local bar. The dude won over 2 million bucks on the show. They was ripped off, folks.
Jennings said that most Jeopardy contestants can answer a majority of questions and it comes down to who can think of it quicker and/or clicking the buzzer. Someone questioned him if it was unfair that the computer had perfect timing, but said that's exactly what computers are supposed to do, why penalize that? It's like penalizing a calculator for doing math quicker than a human...we use computers because they can do certain things instantly for us. It would be interesting to see what the result would be if they spotted the contestants 1 second on buzzing in.
That seems really weird that Houston affiliates would air Jeopardy that late. Are its ratings bad in Houston?
