Nice work and living outside of Houston I find myself defending it quite often. I took a few Minnesotans with me down to Houston a few years ago for a Judo tournament and they loved it. They never realized Houston was so big.

The part that resonated with me was how quickly the rest of the country forgot about Hurricane Ike. It seemed like it was in the news for a couple of days and then forgotten. I put together an Ike fundraiser that was a struggle to get interest. In fact a local DJ mentioning it called it a "Katrina" fundraiser.

Today really is a great day to be a Houstonian and a Rocket fan. We can walk with our heads held high, because it's clear that no matter what, we will NOT go down without a fight.

Damn fine article, Jeff. Thanks for putting into beautiful words what so many of us less articulate Houstonians have been trying to tell people for years. I take pride in my city, damnit, and I hate that so many people go out of their way to run us down.

I'm looking at you, Bill Simmons.

"Like the Rockets, Houston isn’t a city of surface, but rather a city of substance, which is why I love both and why millions of others do too."

Couldn't agree more. A beautiful read, Jeff.
