this actually makes some sense wasnt there a rumor about manu to the wizards for their 5th pick and someone else? the wizards have some young bigs up front that could help them out.

then with the 5th pick they can probably get like a thabeet to help shore up that front court.

    ugh

but i still think all 3 of those guys are going to get bought out/retire and some how make their way back to the spurs

That's actually what I was thinking. This trade makes sense for both teams, but I don't see this pushing the Spurs over the edge.

The title of this thread is Jefferson to the Spurs, and Al has been in trade rumors mentioned by Chad Ford.

The Milwaukee Bucks agreed to trade Richard Jefferson to the San Antonio Spurs for Bruce Bowen, Kurt Thomas and Fabricio Oberto a Bucks source told ESPN.com.

The two teams have agreed to the deal in principle. A trade call to make the deal official is coming later Tuesday.

The move gives the Spurs a dynamic wing scorer to play alongside Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili. The Spurs had promised to make their team better this summer and adding Jefferson for role players should give them a huge shot in the arm.

The Bucks incentive to make the trade is largely financial. Bowen, Oberto and Thomas are all in the last year of their contracts. The deal will clear $15 million off the books for the Bucks next season and give Milwaukee more flexibility for next year. It also saves them roughly $3 million this year. That may give the Bucks the wiggle room to sign one of their restricted free agents -- either Charlie Villanueva or Ramon Sessions -- next year.

Obviously Bowen, Oberto and Thomas also give the Bucks some veterans who will fill key holes for the team. The move also opens up some playing time for the Bucks lottery pick last year, Joe Alexander.

I wish teams like the Bucks, Grizzlies, T-wolves, Warriors, and Clippers would all just dissapear. They do nothing but upset the balance of power in the west for YEARS to come (Lakers and Gasol being the worst of all-time).

This is a salary dump, plain and simple. The Bucks want nothing to do with the guys they just got back. They would have traded him for air if it had worked out, salary wise.

When is the NBA going to put a stop to these sorts of trade-buyout deals that have no reperuccsions to either party (the Bucks are just at much at fault for this, and the Spurs could care less if there was a "waiting period" before they could sign these guys again... just as long as they would be able to play in the playoffs).

    It disgusts me.

i don't think so. mcgrady is owed a lot more than bowen+thomas+oberto (i think some of their salaries are only partially guaranteed). this was a purely cost-cutting move, and the spurs offer would save the most money.

if they find a way to get a big defensive center they can compete with the lakers.

Good trade for S.A. barring injuries, they will be a force again next year...but all of their core has had injury problems so you never know

I concur. At least when we jacked Ron Artest, it was reasonable because he was on his contract year, and the Kings got a promising, young player.

I actually wonder how this will affect Morey. He seems like he's so in control, but I'm wondering if he'll be more likely to make a move now that the the Spurs, barring injury, have moved back into the mix as favorites now.

    Is this bye-bye for TMac?

I'm thinking you didnt take Mcgrady's insurance into consideration when you wrote that.

An Optimistic Houston Rockets fan can view this as an indication that Deals like this are truly out there and Morey will grab one.

Also, there might be an even better deal lurking out there and the Spurs are no longer in a position to do it.
