Jeff, thanks for the recaps! Very cool. Nice to hear some Rockets news during the slow summer months. Looking forward to training camp at the end of September. Looks like VG is open to a lot of things and different lineups. It will be interesting to see who makes his starting lineup.

    Speaking of the 3...

It looks like the Nuggets won't be pursuing Stephen Jackson any longer, what with the signing of Jon Barry. Oh, and look, we have an empty roster spot and half the MLE lying around...

thanks for the heads up. I do like Rice in situational play when we need shooting, but I'm hoping our wing players can step up to reduce his playing time to 15 minutes or less.

Lucius Harris and Jon Barry both signed for our available money withOUT any apparent pursual by the Rox. That bodes poorly, IMO, for any other guard pick up above minimum.

Even Brunson signed elsewhere. Rick (JVG's caddy) Brunson.

At this point, I'd pass on both of them as well.

    How about some Rocket tapes?

I may need to hit you up for a couple of the games last year than you got from R2K.

I have an ongoing discussion with GATER about ISO offenses and we are at an impasse until I can review the games that he is talking about.

Maybe GATER will end up educating me. :)

That's good, because they're gone. Which is bad because either would have worn Rox Red well.

    codell -
    Here we go...off-topic again...

Go back and read the response by Easy. That poster seems to think you were talking about an offensive set while I was pointing out a result within any set. They make a good point.

BTW - If you'll buy the tape and pay the postage...they're relatively commercial free with about 4 or 5 games per tape. :)

(Sorry, no DVD's at this time :( ).

And I trust that even though you are PRC, you will give JVG a fair evaluation (I recall +5 wins was Base 1?...just remember the 02-03 Rox were relatively injury free). Anyway, I like what I'm hearing so far!

At least once a year? considering that Garnett&Duncan had like
3-4 this year alone. I'm hoping he get like 20-25 triple double
    within 7 years.

I agree. You don't need Jon Barry when you already have Piatkowski. And certainly, why would Jon be interested in being a role player competing for identical minutes with Piatkowski. Plus, Rick Barry said that the choice had a little to do with Jon Barry wanted to move his family close to his dad (who lives in Colorado Springs).

Some career role players just want to settle down at that age....I think it was more Jon's decision than anything reasonable Houston could have done to make an attractive offer.

    Gater,

I did ready Easy's post and I agree with your take on it. I was indeed clearly talking about sets, which are dictated by the coach and like you said, you were talking about end results. Thats where well just never agree because I think the end result is more often than not, dictated by the player's decision making on the court.

    I digress though.

Thanks for the offer on the tapes. Ill probably just send Smeg an email asking him to bring them with em when he comes to town next month (I am cheap ;) ).

BTW, its not that I don't trust your assesment of those notes plays. Like I said, perhaps you can educate me.

Also, I do consider myself pro-Rudy but not to the point where I can't be objective. There are a ton of reasons why a coach will and can be fired. The main reasons I feel for firing a coach, are mainly due to the player's tuning him out or losing respect for him (or if the coach just clearly is not head coaching material). No on on here will ever agree if that did or did not happen and hence, perhaps thats the reason why no one will agree on the main reasons why Rudy is gone. As far as the reasons I feel a coach shouldn't be fired, is when the player's clearly can't execute his offense. I am by no means proclaiming that any inherent offensive system, no matter the coach, should be 100% successful if its executed right. But I saw things in our system that were being done in a very similar fashion by other teams and they had success with it. Thats what leads me to believe that our problems have been mainly execution problems more than coaching problems.

Well see next year how it pans out. JVG has my full support. IMO, even if he is the savior, at the most, I see us improving by 5 games (and I think its fair to credit a portion of that to the natural maturation process of the players). Someone said it a few months ago, "change is good". I don't think JVG is a better coach than Rudy, but sometimes a different perspective can help a team acheive its potential. So in that, I do believe JVG will help this team win more. However, this improvement will hinge in large part to the maturation of EG and Yao.

PS - Apologies to the thread starter for the derailment. :)

not sure who has actually signed or not, but off the top of my head:

Best, Kenny Anderson, Vaughn, Stephen Jackson(if for cheap, doubtful), Mark Jackson

I'm sure there's more, but basically any decent backup pg and pf could be added on there as well.

better than what would be a 3rd string sg or a more expensive adrian griffin ...

I say forget wasting more money on another PG.. we have francis playing a good amount of minutes and moochie coming off the bench for some scoring and making plays.. moochie has truly dissapointed me, but lets not forget, he is definately capable of hitting big time shots.. he has done it numorous times in the past.. lets hope he has been working out this summer, and comes back with something to prove.. BUT, as i was saying.. i say we go after Stephen Jackson.. i havent been following his game since he was a rookie in NJ Nets.. he lit us up for like 28 points.. they were playing without an injured Stephon Marbury.. we lost that game tooo!! haha.. but he is pretty good.. not the most consistent.. but he is long, plays decent defense and is a hard worker who is willing to play a "team" game.. ALSO, i bet we can get him fairly cheap.. half the MLE??? input please!!!!

I think we need to add a defensive minded player in the backcourt. I think T. Best is considered pretty good defensively if i remember.

We obviously disagree about the value of these guys.

I'll give you and RIET Best as having some value, tho I definetly prefer Barry or Harris.

I'd rather a 50-something Tiny to the current cousin Kenny (yeah, I mixed Anderson with his so called play-alike and his cousin da Jet). He's a fool.

Vaughn and MJax have nothing worth bringing at this stage.

SJax is another 2/3 who is OK, but. But SA didn't want him back. Fegan, his agent, always makes silly demands (and usually gets them met!).
