 Maybe Yao passed the ball because he was too far out to get a good shot?

I'm not sure how much Camby was on the floor with Ewing the season the Knicks got to the Finals, but does anyone remember some of the ways they were used together? I'm wondering if Ewing/Camby will shed any light on Yao/Eddie.

Major bummer. I guess we can kiss those 6-7 assists per game goodbye. Bye bye Walton, hello O'neal.

I could agree with most everything else you said, but this statement is just wrong. In spite of what you might think Rudy has always been an innovator who builds an offense around it's strengths.

As for The opps knowing the play before he runs it. Didn't Phil Jackson do the same thing with MJ. Everyone new MJ was going to shoot but you couldn't stop him anyway. You go with what works and you go to your strenghts no matter how much the other team knows it. As long as you can beat them that why would you doing anything else.

The fact is Hakeem has been our only real strength of the recent past. Last year Francis was still too inconsistent and Yao was still developing. But Rudy has changed since we lost Hakeem, Rudy developed an effective guard offense with Cat and Francis that had the rest of the league in fits with are ISO guard play. So much so that they changed the rules the very next year. We were outmanned that year by most teams but we still stayed competitive and managed to give Dallas, a much more talented team fits.

Rudy has always coached to his assets... And you can argue that, but Rudy's history speaks for itself. In a league where it's almost impossible to break into the championship club, Rudy has done it twice and he did it because he found out how to get the best out of his best player. And he would have made great strides with Yao this year as well.

So as it is clear I am a fan of Rudy's I am still excited about the Rockets future and I do think JVG has a solid basketball mind. I am just not convinced he has what it takes to win championships... But we shall see and I am rooting for him.

That's a good one. My memory is failing me. But I think what I was referring to was more complex than that. Point plus-minus is the basic. But I think they also measure things like team fg%, opp. fg%, etc. In other words, they do all the team and opp statistical data based on each player's presence on the floor.

And I believe they also look at them based on how combinations of players on the floor do to project an optimal lineup. That, I think, is the only objective measurement to assess "chemistry" between certain players.

Hey, verse, I didn't know you were interested in stats. Where is your sig?

I would much rather have EG behind the 3 point arc than at 17-20 ft, maybe even prefer over his posting up as well. Until his inside and mid-range shots get much more consistent, a 33% clip at the 3 point line is the most efficient thing he can do offensively.

I hope for more from EG offensively over time (post up and/or midrange game), but if he can just edge up his 3 point shooting a little (say around 35-36%) you could not take him for granted in the offense. Some slim PFs (e.g., Horry, Marshall) have made a decent enough living like this as long as they play good defense and/or hustle for boards.
