Unlike last time when it was the Knicks or Lakers, it could be possible. Neither JVG nor Phil are signed for next season. I doubt it but stranger things have happened.

Phil signed a 3 year 30 million dollar deal. That's 10 million and year, and he gets the bang the owners daughter without marrying her. This is his second season in LA.

Spoken like a scholar. You, of all people, are sure we would win back to back titles. Hmmm.

Avery Johnson and Pop are just as good as Riles and PJ. In fact, both are definitely better than PJ is now.

My bad. The earlier talk of extension was so he wouldn't be a lame duck next season.

    Actually that's not true.

    1. PJ has one more guaranteed year.

    2. JVG's option has already been picked up for next year, it's just that because it's an option all it means is he is only getting $1 million if Alexander doesn't want him back. If Alexander does then he gets $5 million.

But actually it's pretty much if Rockets lose to Jazz in round 1, and PJ keeps getting pi$$ed in LA, then probably,

    One of two things

    1. PJ retires
    2. Rockets fire JVG and hire someone like Adelman

    or

    1. Rockets fire JVG
    2. PJ refuses an extension and gives up his last year on his deal money wise

then the Rockets compensate the Lakers with a 2nd round pick and he coaches the Rockets (no guarantee though because he is getting old now).

But PJ has another year guaranteed on his deal and it's likely he would have to give up that money which is at $8 million.

So Les probably has to shell out $8-$10 million for PJ then $1 million for JVG plus a 2nd round pick, but considering what Larry Brown got, it's probably the going rate for a coach in the Riley or Jackson calibre.

If Lakers fans are so ticked at PJ then JVG can go coach Kobe and Odom and Bynum.

It's actually $8 million according to Jeanie Buss, but considering he gets to bang that hot piece it might as well be $10 million.

AJ is nowhere close to those other 3.

And Popovich is not even close to Riley and Jackson.

Hell Jackson is not even close to Riley.

I noticed that the the majority of people who hate JVG, are Houston Rockets fans. I've been on plenty of other basketball forums and everyone that's not a Rockets fan, shows great respect to JVG. They all think he's a great coach and a candidate for Coach of the Year. So I'm not surprised at all that a Laker fan says this about JVG.

And If you go on any Lakers boards, they aren't exactly too fond of Phil Jackson either. Lots of LA fans don't like him. It's almost comparable to the "home hate" that JVG gets from Rockets fans. So yeah, he isn't the only person or Lakers fan that feels this way.

Well maybe, I'm just going by the fact that Jeannie said it was $8 million when she was on the Jim Rome show.

This argument is not well put together.

JVG is better than 90 percent of the NBA coaches, so why would other team's coaches not prefer him to their own coach?

But JVG is not IMO a champion calibre coach.

He just doesn't have it. And believe it or not there are some in NBA that do.

Now as to Lakers fans opinion on JVG, my friend it is well known that the least knowing NBA fans are Lakers fans.

The vast majority of Lakers fans are fanboys and fangirls, you have to look long and wide to find the 3 out of 10 Lakers fans that actually know another NBA team exists and that Kobe is not the only good player in the NBA.

Lakers fans in great majority make Suns fans look smart.

Yeah, this is coming from the a guy who makes up stats and stories to solidify his arguements. Sorry but no thanks, I think I'll take a Lakers fans word over your word any day. Your word is equivalent to dried up bullcrap.

Anyways, I wasn't trying to say JVG is better than Phil or vice versa. Just pointing out the facts that most JVG haters are Rockets fans, while everyone else believes he is a great coach that can get it done.

I know u are telling the truth. But those fans on the Lakers board are not the majority of the Lakers' fans. Most of those Lakers' fans are teens in their puberty trying to figure out logic 101. Ask Jack Nickolson's opionion on Phil and he will give u a knowledgable answer. When Phil was gone, I think the Lakers fans petitioned to bring back Phil.

Yeah but the problem is that that is the wide base of their fan base.

A good 70 percent is nothing but fan boys and fan girls.

Believe me I know, I lvied in LA during the Shaq/Kobe years.

Fans here complain about YOF and TOF and etc., believe me, just living in LA and being a basketball fan that isn't a fan boy or fan girl is difficult.

Just look at their freaking crowds for goodness sakes. You go their to see some nice tata's or some celeb hopped on dope, hardly anyone there even knows what a turnover is.

Yes, some believe that with no basis. Since he's been here he hasn't done anything. I guess his fans want to slide into the 2010 with the same old thing. Benching players the team needs, mystery injuries, the yearly player/coach grudge (usually ending with the player getting slammed and benched), the post game brown nose articles from the Chronicle, and the fans still arguing why assistant is still a top 5 coach with no rings continually referring to that Pat Riley assembled Knicks team he quit on.

I'm not saying those Lakers fans are right, just pointing out the similarities between the two teams. Rockets fans hate JVG, everybody else thinks hes great. Lakers fans hate Phil, everybody else thinks hes great. These are very similar situations.

To be honest with you, this is Phil's worst coaching season ever becuase he doesn't coach most of the time. He seems to just sit there collecting his paycheck. Doesn't call timeouts, etc..

Phil has won the city of LA 3 rings, so he owes them nothing at all. These people in LA are spoiled and feel as though they are entitled to win every year. Not glad to be in contention, but entitled to win it all.

You can't even tell them Kobe did anything wrong in his life, so what do you expect. There are a multitude of bandwagon fans or Kobe fanatics I should say that are as inconsistent as the team is.
