    LOL :D

How the hell am I suppose to argue with that. :p BTW, I love that story and using that logic I have to agree with your last quote.

    DoD and GATER,

I can't really argue with your reasoning nor can I say JVG was wrong for answering the way he did. I guess I will just say that I would have loved to have an honest answer to those questions, but I understand why he tap danced.

Is it possible that the guy is just speaking the honest truth and that both of you guys are dead wrong.

    Yes!

Van Gundy is a smart coach and while I may not care for his style. He certainly is qualified to judge another coach's ability. The fact is Rudy is one of the better coaches in the NBA. And Van Gundy being able to see that says more about Van Gundy's basketball mind than anything else.

And also says alot about the basketball intelligence of many of the posters on here.

    Yep!

That was classic JVG sarcasm! :)

    That's the real JVG!

Yep! You hit the nail on the head! He's playing politics.

But in fairness, his job is to make changes for now and the future. Not worry about the past failures of others. He knows the truth about Rudy's crappy offense and Francis's ISO problem. But he'll address that in practice. Not in the papers. At least not right now.

By the way, I do believe in pecking order.

Francis and Yao should set the standard. They should have the most rigorous work ethic. Anyone else not getting in line will be reprimanded.

It's a way of saying, "If you want to be a part of this team, you better carry your weight." No slackers. Now of course, Francis and Yao have to set that standard.

JVG is telling the players that needing time to gel is an excuse. Guess what Rudy was telling the players in the beginning of last season? JVG has a different, or might I say, better approach to winner's attitude, but of course, he'll never say it out loud in the public.

    Well said!

    Rudy: Excuses help the team.

    JVG: Excuses hurt the team.

Things I like from this interview:
    • they don't play games. they win games.
    • they're a team. You can ask JVG direct questions about a player, but he's got his players back - won't get in front of a microphone and bash a player.
    • He's showing that there isn't just one problem or just two problems that's killing us. It's not running, or ISO, or dribbling.... it's the big picture. It's everyone and everything.
    • He's busting his butt to do every single thing he can to win every game we play this season.
    Sounds good so far.
