I hope he said, "HE (JVG) gives the ball to me". That's the area I honestly see JVG excelled. See my [touches and pregress] thread. He forced Yao to develop more low-post game also. Other areas of JVG's influence on Yao, Jury is still out there.
I don't think anyone wanted Yao to be exclusively a high post center. We just want him to mix it up low and high, confusing the other team as much as possible. Furthermore, if Yao plays only in the low post for the rest of his career, the physical hammering he will get will destroy him. Shaq survives down low because the referees allow him to pay back all the punishment he gets -- and then some. So he gets hammered less than he probably deserves. The refs will never give Yao the same latitude; that is just the way it is in America. So he will need some rest occasionally. We can't afford to bench him much, because his defence is too valuable. So that is another good reason to move him temporarily to the high post.
I agree I really must give JVG credit on sticking to this one I still think someone YAO's other skills have eroded some but Those are like a bike. . .he will pick them up again easily more so than learning the post I think now JVG ca really let the riegns loose a bit and unleash YAO's Full arsenal Rocket River
Thanks for the compliement. It's too late now.... 2:00 am in the morning. I need some sleep now. I'll work on it tomorrow when I have time....a very lengthy article, but very interesting. I think you guys will enjoy it.
Massive thanks man. I don't know how to tell you this, but... I'm a pryuen-only-fan, and I don't know how to quit you.
I can agree to that I am one of them I will officially say MY BAD! HOWEVER I still want the FULL YAO not just the LOW POST YAO Rocket RIver
yao's prime is still years away. with his desire to get better i think the yao we see now is just a small view of how truly dominant he will be.
BTW pryuen, regarding this section: You might be interested in knowing how this quote was originally phrased in English by JVG. I'm sure it's cool to see how things get translated and re-interpereted in different languages: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/3708437.html
i'd still like to see yao take some threes every once in a while. brad miller never really has more than 2 attempts at long range in a game and it's not like he shoots from there in every game. yao may be a force under the basket but opening up the area for other guys to mix it up wouldn't hurt. i'd be disappointed if spanoulis is only used as a 3pt specialist. rudy drafted a slashing slovenian, jvg turned that player into a streaky shooting 3pt Boki. at the very least yao shooting 3 free throws isn't a bad prospect.
wrong. wrong. wrong. wrong. wrong. the most impressive thing about boki was his shooting during a scheduled workout, where he drained like 15 in a row. that's what impressed rudy. in retrospect, it was a horrible pick. in retrospect, the rockets are so far behind the nba curve in overseas scouting that it is embarassing. the spurts have the entire nba whipped in that aspect.
