Clutch, now you know that it is not that black and white.

These are two completely different teams.

The Rudy team was Cat and Franchise and I supported him being let go....

This team is Yao and Tmac and IMO, is perfectly set up for a Rudy type of coach.

    Come on, play fair now.

    Apples to apples please.

    DD

PS. I reserve the right to blast the next coach if he stinks up the joint too, the Rockets and their success is my only concern as a fan.

    1. I didnt say they were 3rd options, but they couldnt have helped more in any aspects?

    2. I'm not saying make them rotation players, but 82 games to try them out and see what they got.....they never got a fair chance IMO....

    3. The WBPS was awesome. U cant honestly tell me JVG didnt get severely outcoached by Avery Johnson affer goin up 2-0? That team was good enough to advance....As was our current roster.......

Actually I think this move illustrates what I've believed for years now - that the Rockets have entered a phase of profound drift. They used to constantly change players when things didn't work out. Now they have started running through coaches as well. This is a process that can last for years. Think about it: this will mark the 3rd head coach for Yao in his career here. That's 3 different coaches, 3 different systems in 6 years. What I find amusing is the folks here who actually believe that merely changing coaches will magically erase the talent gap between the Rockets and the rest of the Western Conference.

LOL, please. How is you being "convinced that this staff has zero clue about how to run an offense or a quality defense in the NBA" dependent upon the type of players Rudy had? Did I mention you blasted the "crappy ISO basketball" in that thread, and now you're hailing it as revolutionary?

Some good drugs you are on there :p

Contrary to your belief we can indeed do worse than this year. Kind of like the four years prior to JVG.

What kind of system did Adelman run in Portland? Was it the same as with Sacramento?

    lmao.

dadakota, how do you even defend the crap that comes out of your mouth? you're the same guy that calls for one coaches head and praises the same guy the next minute.

Christ man, at least be somewhat consistent with what you say around here.

Of course not. Rafer will start shooting 46% from 3 and lead the team in double digit assists. :D

    It continues to baffle me....

"He did better than any coach could with the talent he had".

    Wake up!!!

He's responsibile for the talent he had!!!

Who was it that extensively played Mutombo, Howard and Alston to get to 34 wins? He could have had Brandon Roy.

VG's fingerprints are all over the Battier trade. He cost himself rotational depth and a huge athleticism upside.

He's a control freak...run transtion O as fast as you can...jsut don't turn the ball over. Especially if your name isn't Rafer Alston.

And why should I make peace offerings to Wells?

Van Gundy's entire rotation consisted of "safe" players...play my complex defense, don't turn the ball over and stand there at the 3 point line while I allow McGrady to take all the shots he wants.

Van Gundy IMO would never take the Rockets out of the 1st round because he plays it too safe...it's just like the personnel he picked and/or plays.

    Good riddance.

Although...I do hope they team him with Bill Worrell. :p

This, to me, has been the oddest situation involving a Houston coach that I have ever seen. Either I don't listen to sports enough anymore since the Rockets were eliminated, or this was a very behind the doors and full of rumors firing.

Seriously, I still can't believe it.

I hope this makes the team "entertaining" next season. No more boring, gritty, and flat our ugly games. (one can wish can't he....)

...but Rick as the new Coach? not much of an upgrade if you ask me.

but yeah. I'm still surprised this happened.

I don't know about the move. I will try and be open about it. But do we honestly believe that another coach will get better results with the same talent?

Remember Jeff wanted major changes and folks like Morey and those above Jeff only want little tweaks. So with basically the same team, do we really expect better results with a different coach?

Only a peace of pie offering would work.

Well, actually since you believe that it was JVG who was "holding" this team back and that a new coach will be successful where he "failed", we'll get to see which of you is right on this matter.

Unless Van Gundy is just a bold face liar, he wanted Brandon Roy, that didn't happen, he wanted to trade the pick for a 2 guard and I know which one he wanted. I don't know if he wanted Battier at all but it goes against what he was trying to accomplish which was get a 2 guard and play Tracy at the 3.

Battier plays the same position as Tracy so I don't see Van Gundy pushing for that, he probably was presented that trade and signed off on it considering they couldn't get a 2 guard (esp. Brandon Roy)
