That team in NY sucked and I don't know how he got them to the finals...

And you are right he micro-managed on the court, but I talked to Jon Barry and Sura at Dave and Busters about Grumpy and didn't get the maniacal control freak impression...

In fact the report was glowing about how much freedom they really had.

I definitley will miss his passion and desire, but knowing that he's gone is a good thing...Yao and T-Mac still have not hit their full potential and I hope the next coach does...

Why is Rick the only option?

i think they won a lot of games because of their defense. i think that's how a team with that kind of personnel needs to play to win. grab a couple of freaking rebounds and we're talking about a matchup vs. the Warriors.

I'm sad to see him go, I think this team really needs to maintain its identity as a defesive team. The best case scenario is that we stay in the top five in defense, and hope the Adelman (or whoever) can do a slightly better job a making opposing teams adjust to us on the offesive end (JVG biggest weakness). My hopes are not extremely high that this is going to be the result. Morey has his work cut out for him this offseason, we'll see what happends.

Yeah, someone needs to explain to them (most likely in crayon) exactly what the term "General Manager" means...

Is that what you think? Because I believe that most people would like to see a little more variety from Yao at the high post on offense, perhaps a little zone on defense as well.

You know mix it up a bit, take advantage of the new rules and the way the NBA is called now.

And, perhaps get something from the bench instead of wearing out his starters causing 4th quarter collapse after 4th quarter collapse.

The Rockets will be better because of his departure, and I will be seeking an apology from several JVG apologists.

True, but do you honestly think Gundy utilized all our players on our roster the right way? Dont you think we could've gotten more offensively out of Battier, Head, and Alston in the playoffs than to have them camp out in the 3 point land and launch away? Dont u think Alston could actually use his quickness and passing ability in a fastbreak, or high paced offense, than to have him run a half court set every time down? Not to mention, we never tried out VSpan, Novak, Wells, Snyder etc......

A roster can be tweaked easily. We did it. 2 years ago. Remember how we got Wesley, Jon Barry, Sura, Mike James?? These were players that JVG wanted and got.....I'm sure if we make small to medium moves like this and get players to Adelman's liking, we can rehaul our roster by midseason....

That clip is actually from the 1992 NBA Finals. If you watch the Untouchabulls video, it's on there.

And you know what? The 1992 Blazers were arguably more talented overall than the Bulls. Alls I know is they didn't blow a 15-point 4th quarter lead in Game 6 to a more talented squad. The Bulls came back with the likes of Bobby Hansen leading the way.

Ask Bonzi, or V-Span, or Snyder.....those are the guys still playing...we need freedom for them too.

    this has to be considered...

this team needs talent and he's a VERY LOW RISK at this point at really improving our talent.

i hope adelman can bring him back out and get it to work. we all know bonzi can play.

DD to be fair, and accurate.... that wasn't a quote, it was implied in how they kidded about it. I think my impression is that when Grumpy trusted a player he trusted them... Barry I think made a comment joking they just ignored what he told them and did what they wanted, he also said on the radio once that Grumpy wanted them to run and push the tempo..

but all that was a couple of seasons ago and another time..... it's over anyways.

Yup - it will get suckers to buy season tickets - suckers who think our problem was coaching. Now Les doesn't have to worry about spending any money or trying to improve the team for at least one more year.

I love it how everyone thinks the problem was the coaching - like any of those people know a thing about basketball.

    *shrug*

I think Van Gundy did as well as he could with this group. I don't think Adelman is going to significantly improve anything, but I guess we'll see. I can easily understand the desire not to stand pat.

Jeff, I believe you always did your best and you earned the trust and respect of your players. No doubt this will serve as another hard lesson to them that results are all that matters in the NBA. I'm glad you've grown to love Houston and we're glad to have you in our city. Good luck in whatever future endeavors you choose.

    Yawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwnnnnnnnnnnnn!

JVG, Adelman, Brown, Mario, Bozo the clown. Doesn't matter. Our current roster will never win a championship. Blow it up while you can still get decent value for either Tracy or Yao.

:D Yeah I say we just make Bonzi a player coach with all the freedom he wants, give Snyder the freedom to become, er well Snyder and free little TMac, I like VSpan, he can become a very good player in my o

But come on VSpan wasn't ready yet, I agree that he should have gotten minutes, it was wrong for Grumpy to sit him in the doghouse. Flat out a big mistake, the kid has game....

But some coaches are tough on dissenters, Grumpy is one of them and so to the dog house VSpan went. I was against it, but if that is why we are making this change...

    1. no. i don't think battier, head or alston are legit 3rd scorer options. i made that point quite loudly after the battier trade...that if that was the idea, the rockets were making a huge mistake. he's not a 3rd option. neither is head. neither is alston. none of those guys can create their own shot. and alston couldn't knock down an open jumper to save his life.

    2. if our hopes are pinned on vspan, novak, well and/or snyder, color me pessimistic

    3. tweaked? sure. i think it needs more than a tweak. yeah...the white boy super squad was a great thing. that's atypical. it also didn't find its way out of the first round.

JVG: "You are what your record says you are."

    Fact about JVG's playoff record:
JVG did not get us out of the first round in his years here, despite having the best center in the league (the last two years) and one of the best scorers/playmakers in T-Mac.

I think he is a good coach, nice self-deprecating humor sometimes, great job with the Rowdy thing, but it was time for a change.

I hope we will make some trades/get some more help particularly for the PG/PF positions as well.

Idon't buy the control freak thing either, I think most of the players liked him becasue JVG trusted his players and his system. As for "abhoring turnovers", what coach doesn't like bonehead plays that don't result in getting a shot off.
