Vecsey is now reporting that Adelman is the Rockets' new coach: http://www.nypost.com/seven/05182007/sports/playing_coach_up_sports_peter_vecsey.htm?page=0
About Freaking Time! I am sooooo glad the ROX management saw through that farce of a team that Van Gumby had put together. This team is terribly flawed and uncapable of competing on a championship level with this awfully talented roster. I hope Morey goes all out to make the needed additions to this roster. I think that the main problem was Van Gumby and his defensive mindset. A team of alledge defensive player who could stop no one and seven or eight player who could not shoot a lick was too much for this team to overcome. Or maybe I am offbase here: Is it not the object a basketball games to put the ball through the hoop?
While I agree that JVG is partially to blame for the way things turned out, I think he did a excellent job while he was here. Defense wins, not putting the ball in the hoop. You can have a good record, but the teams that win the championship each year are almost always the top defensive teams. JVG didn't have a lot to work with, and even last year when everyone was hurt and the team was a bunch of CBAers and scrubs, the Rox still played fantasic defense every night. You say they couldn't stop anybody, but look at the stats...they were one of the top defensive teams. Hey this just in...players are great in this league and they are going to score no matter what you do...winning is what's important. I hate to be a buzzkill, but I think the Rox will be worst with Adleman. It's just my opinion...what the f*** has he done?
You had a bad day You're taking one down You sing a sad song just to turn it around You say you don't know You tell me don't lie You work at a smile and you go for a ride You had a bad day The camera don't lie You coming back down and you really don't mind You had a bad day........... R.I.P.------JVG!
Why are so many people under the delusion that Jeff Van Gundy has been the GM of the Rockets the last 4 years, and he's constructed the team all by himself? The roster has significant limitations. We all knew that we wouldn't be able to construct an elite roster 2 years ago given our cap situation. The personnel decisions have been very good, considering what we had to work with. Hell, Carroll Dawson was 2nd in executive of the year voting. Face it. We've made good personnel decisions, and Van Gundy has done a solid job getting our group to play up to its potential. Despite all of that, we were *only* a 52 win team (with Yao missing half the season) that lost in 7 games to a very, very good Utah team. Welcome to the freaking Western Conference. You can do almost everything right, have two great players, and still lose in the first round.
DM, The Rockets come first, always have always will... I may not have liked the coach, but I NEVER want the Rockets to lose. Your's is a trollish comment, but unfortunatly not surprising, you and Sam Fisher alternatively live in the "lack of class" community. DD
i wanna know why they solely looked at Adelman when their are other options out there? lets have a look at Elie, Iavonni, hell even Carlisle!! that said , i hope Adelman can bring us some magic. This is a CRITICAL next few years as we all know for the Rockets - and especially the careers of our big 2. these years will define the next era of the Rockets
thanks for all the hard work jeff. no one could have gotten more out of a 3 man rotation that we have to work with. thanks for the $100,000 fine for sticking up for the team, for the red rowdies, for putting your heart into every possession. haters will be calling for adelman's neck too, in about 7 or 8 months... some of you guys are just fools (vmac & air langhi lovers, strictly jvg-haters, etc.) our problem is not coaching, it's always been drafting (barring a #1 pick)
elie and iavonni are not proven. we have 2 stars needing to win big and we can't have an unproven coach there to lead the way. unless they were great players who won something (which they aren't and elie was a role player), it's hard to get the respect of tmac/yao. carlisle is basically in the same mold of JVG but better publicly. and he can't teach offense either. unless u can get phil, adelman is the #2 best choice right now. and please, don't bring up larry brown. he's good for building losers -> good teams, but not good -> great (outside of the pistons).
oh, and i just read that Gundy's commentating Spurs Suns game 6 which is being shown here in Australia...im really looking forward to that game now. I will miss JVG. He'll always have a place in a true Rocket fans heart.
It's kinda funny, I read a Raptors fan say he wanted Van Gundy hired so he could turn Bosh in a real man. Thanks Jeff for making Yao a low post monster.
How is hiring a eunich going to help a team with no balls? Isn't Adelman notorious for his playoff chokes and soft-minded teams?
ESPN: Rockets fire coach JVG WOW never in recent history where a ROX coach has been fired but it is long due.
The new article in the Chronic has JVG's honesty outing the less-than-forthcoming Rockets brass: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/4816337.html Rockets general manager Daryl Morey said that Van Gundy encouraged Morey and owner Leslie Alexander to begin a coaching search while Van Gundy considered whether he wished to return, a scenario that Van Gundy strongly denied, calling it ``revisionist history.'' ``Everyone who was involved in the meeting knows what was said,'' Van Gundy said. ``Daryl and I know what was said on our conversation. If he can live with that, so be it.''
