I think Jeff Van Gundy will be a good candidate for Assistant coach. Houston Rockets is A team that need better Defense and Discipline. He Had led the Rockets to the Playoffs bringing the Houston Rockets winning percentage to a .528 Prior to Van Gundy’s arrival, the Rockets had limited opponents to less than 70 points only twice in 2,920 games in franchise history. The Rockets ranked second in the NBA with a field goal percentage defense of .412:eek:

Jeff Van Gundy is making way more money working for ESPN than the going rate on assistant coaches.

I don't think JVG would come back as assistant.

    Several problems with the idea.

1 - Coaches do not like to return to the city that fired them.
2 - Head coaches don't like to be assistant coaches
3 - Much of JVGs defensive strategy takes away from an offensive strategy. He believes it keeping offensive players in good position to transition to defense. This won't likely blend well with whatever offense McHale dreams up.

There was some report that Van Gundy did say he'd consider an assistant coach job to start. But I would think he'd be gunning for some contending team, not a quasi-rebuilding project like the Rockets.

If by "they" you mean Vassilis Spanoulis, then yes.

1- Didnt get Fired they didn't come out with a Agreement
2- He was assisant coach with the Knicks before
3- Pros are not like us nothing can be too hard for them. They get transit from offense to defense either way.

He was pretty much fired. He wanted to stay, the Rockets didn't. And they were already looking at Adelman during the season and before JVG's contract ended. That's fired.

Yeah we should be aiming for TT to be our assistant coach, not someone unrealistic like JVG. ;)

Officially, you're right. Adelman met with Les Alexander for the first time on May 11, two weeks before JVG was fired, and announced it five days after he was dismissed. But you'd have to think the Rockets began their due diligence way before that, probably sometime during the season.

Yeah guys, let's hire a coach that has to do things his own way to be part of Morey's matrix. Though they're friends, Morey would not be pleased when he finds out that JVG made Thabeet cry in practice.

Since we're on the subject of JVG,
    His glasses are pimp!

I'm sure deep down JVG hates the KM hire. You have the overachiever, hardworking longtime assistants like Frank and Casey who never played NBA ball (like JVG himself), passed over for the "jock" NBA player who never really cared to work that hard, and has basically sucked at everything he's done post-NBA life (other than as an analyst). I'm sure that burns Jeff up. So I guess I don't see him wanting to assist KM for any team, much less the Rockets.

Get fired and go back to your old boss for a $2 million pay cut and demotion to a lower position.

I don't see any chance of anybody doing that, unless they are unemployed and desperate for cash. JVG has other job opportunities available than the Rockets.

JVG has too much experience and ego to be an assistant.

If you want him on your team, you have to let him run it at this point.

He is a "culture changer." I don't see Kev and his personality working well. Very different in everything. JVG seems to be a perfectionist. Kev comes across as more relaxed.

Still, I'd take JVG over most coaches, even with his unfriendly personality. He gets the job done, preaches defense and supports his players.
