After ending his playing career in 1981, Tomjanovich spent the next two seasons as a Houston scout before being named assistant coach in 1983. He served in that capacity until February 1992 when he was named interim head coach. In 2006, Adelman (in the final year of his contract) led the Kings to the 2006 NBA Playoffs. Despite the team struggling early, the Kings rebounded and qualified for the playoffs as the #8 seed. Although competitive, they were defeated 4-2 by the defending champion San Antonio Spurs. Adelman's contract with the Kings expired at the end of the 2005–2006 season. On May 9, it was reported by the Sacramento Bee that his contract would not be renewed. Adelman is widely regarded around the league as a "player's coach", and is considered one of the more capable coaches in the NBA. However, he is sometimes criticized for being too hands-off; some NBA observers have suggested that Adelman's teams are not as fundamentally sound as their opponents. Adelman's defenders counter that his teams have often over-achieved: advancing deep into the playoffs without the benefit of a superstar such as a Michael Jordan or Shaquille O'Neal.
Oddly, i think you are right in that very few coaches would have gotten 52 wins from the team given all that happened. I also think that Jeff may just be a great egular season coach and a very average playoff coach. It wouldn't be the first time in sports history (please see Mart Schottenheimer). JVG emphasizes defense and hustle which differentiates a team in the regular season when you are playing bad teams and teams that are not motivated night in and night out. In the playoffs, all teams are emphasizing D and hustling their rears off. What makes the difference in the post season is execution and in-game / between game adjustments. neither of which the Rox have exceled at during JVG's time.

Just because a poster joined clutch fans a few months ago, doesn't make him any less a fan and less knowing than another poster. Joining clutchfans doesn't make you a rockets fan...you're a rockets fan therefore you joined clutchfans. I've been a rockets fan for over 15 years, but joined clutchfans last year (like yourself), so i guess we don't know better. Just a thought...

By the way, I really hate when other people claim to be better fans than anyone else. I disagree with several fans, but it is just a matter of opinion, everyone posting on here is a Rockets fan.....
