you guys are dumb, no professional athlete likes to lose on purpose. if we draw the jazz fine, if not fine. if we going to lose we are going to lose. if we going to win we going to win. nough' said. besides we finally have a healthy Yao to play against the jazz. last couple of times we didnt.
but we have already lost T-Mac who always performs perfectly in the playoffs, despite his second round virginity. Yao is a good player but he has troubles coping with Okur and Boozer so he is not the player we should rely on, I would rather put more expectation on Ron.
I never advocate losing on purpose. Ever. And I have been a Rocket fan for over 30 years. But you know what? I want no part of the jazz in the playoffs. At least not in the first round. Playoffs are about matchups. Yao or no Yao, utah presents us with the worst matchups of any other Western team. I don't care what our record is, what their record is, who has homecourt advantage, who is hurt, who is healthy, I still want no part of them in the 1st round.
In 2007, we did have a healthy Yao and Mcgrady vs the Jazz and we still lost. Avoid the Jazz till the second round!!!
This whole lose on purpose/just hope for the second round idea some people have is just r****ded. Develop some of your self-respect and try to focus on how to win a championship.
How is that wrong? Of course this thread is only about avoiding them the first round. There's no way to avoid them in later rounds.
One way to win a championship is to get out of the first round and build some confidence. Then once you've passed that milestone maybe you'll be more ready to play your arch nemesis. I'm against throwing games on purpose, and everyone should be. However if you're not hoping and praying to avoid playing the Jazz until at least the second round then you either haven't been watching the Rockets Jazz matchups the past three seasons...or you are a masochist.
Whatever. Get off your high horse and save the cheerleading for the Power Dancers. Just because you're a realist doesn't make you any less of a fan. I would argue the opposite, actually. The way you win a championship is to get out of the first round (something we haven't done in over a DECADE). And the way to get out of the first round is to avoid the team that's knocked you out the last 2 years.
In an earlier post, ibm described a scenario: at the last game of the season, the rox could still be 2 or 3, while Jazz could still be 6 or 7; what if a loss to Dallas put bring Dallas up and put Jazz to 8? ibm did not support the idea of this thread, but he had the right choice. Now, tough guy are you going to go all out to beat Dallas so that you can play Jazz in the playoffs instead of other teams? I would say you are r****ded if you would choose to go all out. If Rox is the Lakers or the Celtics where anything less than the championship is a failure, I would definitely agree your tough guy mentality: you have to beat anyone standing in the way, sooner or later. But Rox is not at that level yet. You can pretend and you look glamourous, but afterwards someone has got to wipe your %ss for you.
No, you got it all wrong. If we want to be champions, you do not fear any team you face. If you fear them, might as well pack up and leave now.
no your mistaken, Yao had just came back from a leg leg injury in 2007, he had no lift or mobility. besides we had no bench back in 07.
I'm a newbie here and wanted to weigh-in on this eventual pairing. I understand why some of you want to flee vs. fight with the Jazz. The Utah squad seems (to this writer) better equipped this season than in the last two with Brewer's and Millsap's progression. Memo is playing very well. Williams is shaking off some poor shooting lately, but will get his. He will need to whine less to the refs, though. Korver has stepped up on both ends of the court, and exacerbates the difficulty Houston has had at the 2 vs. Utah. Then there's Harpring's ability to get into the heads of Artest, Yao, Scola, etc. AK is a big X-factor for the Jazz. Boozer might see some extended pine time, if he can't get it together. But if he does... Will Brooks be able to contain Deron's drives and cross-overs? Yao has mad skills, but can his brand of ferocity convert to playoff wins? Does Adelman feel the same sense of helplessness against Sloan's team that is percolating on this board?
my line of thinking as well. You can't become a lawyer in one step. You first have to graduate college, then get admitted into law school, and then graduate law school first. You can't win the championship in one series, you have to make the 2nd round first. One step at a time.
