Yao+Healthy McGrady =loss in 7 games The current team doesn't coast on its talent...we play hard on each posession. Yao's size just makes him incapable of guarding Okur on the perimeter and that leaves us vulnerable for the Jazz to drain 3's. Yao gets worn down on offense as well. Adelman has not provided an answer for the various ways the Jazz have exploited Yao so what makes you think it will be different this time around? We all want the Rockets to go as far as possible...don't wish for it to be harder than it is already going to be...
The risk of losing to the jazz in the first round for a third time is not worth beating them in the first round.
Me too...I'm just not wishing for the Jazz to be in 7th while we're sitting in second. But if it happens that way then so be it. We need to play to win tommorow...
This thread has 4 pages, wow. You take the home court and don't look back, it's not close. San Antonio and Portland are no pushovers either, and remember we did have a road victory vs Utah this year. Furthermore, it is huge to have the 2nd seed, in order to have home court advantage all the way to the WCF, unless someone dethrones LA, in which case that would be the icing on the cake.
Yao is more effective versus other teams more than he is against the Jazz. Are you denying that fact? Just look at the numbers posted in this thread. Nobody has refuted them yet. And yes in some ways he is a liability because Yao has to concede the perimeter shot. What part of my statements did you not get? I never said not to play him...
our 2 rings went through utah, why should this year be different I WANT UTAH! there i said it, our destinies are just intertwined get homecourt, beat the mavs
No doubt it's a very bad matchup and apart from the Lakers no one else is as dominant against us as them, however tanking is an unprofessional approach. That kind of attitude will cause us problems against anyone. Facing the Spurs on the road even with their injuries is going to be tough. Portland on the road might be a bit easier but there is no guarantee of success there as well. Do the best that you can against any opponent win or lose, nothing is more important than that.
I can't believe there is an argument. As a fan, I can see how you would hope that we don't face the Jazz in the 1st round. But if you are a player on the Rockets team, and you are afraid of losing to the Jazz in the 1st round, you don't deserve to win. If you get into a mindset where we can't beat this team, then why even play? If we are afraid of a team that is probably going to get destroyed by the Lakers in the 1st round, losing homecourt potentially just to avoid them, then we might as well just pack up and wait for next season. No question they are the hardest matchup behind the Lakers, but they are very beatable. We havn't beaten them in Utah, but they havn't beaten us in Houston either. You guys act like they dominate us every time we play them, thats not the case. If we can hold home court, we win.
of course any player is more or less effective against different teams. that's not news. and yao is less effective against utah or any other teams that have bigs who can really shoot the ball (e.g., bargnani). but the other poster was saying we as a team would be more effective without yao. and that, is a ridiculous statement.
The chips have fallen for the Jazz, it doesn't look like they are going any where but to LA for their playoff run, as they aren't getting over Dallas for 7th.
