Carlos Boozer's situation is a bit different though. He gave his "word" to Cleveland and then jolted. We still like to believe that athletes would like to win, but in cases like Boozer I guess money will always prevail. What goes around comes around to the Jazz.

he's not leaving the jazz, he's just like malone, he thrives in that system and that's the only reason why he'll be as good as he is now. deron williams on the other hand is one bad motha.

I traded for Bloozer on my NBA Live and so far he's been a 20/10 kinda guy in my Run-n-Gun style.

Utah should just trade Bloozer to Milwaukee where life sucks, before he "cleveland" them. Or maybe to OKC for Durant.

My hatred for Boozer is near Karla Malone status.

Everyone knows he screwed Cleveland over with his under the table promises and I think his punishment of having to be a black man in Salt Lake City should be enough.

Boozer has already proven you can't trust him. Utah fans have reason to be worried if he does opt out.

Boozer should do whatever is in his best interests, period. He has a short lifespan to play the game, so he should maximize his profit.

    1. He's criticized for being a backstabber who broke his word, not for maximizing his income.

    2. How do you know he's being honest now?

    3. Lots of people are criticized for allowing money to trump other considerations.

    4. I agree, what he did to Cleveland did suck.

    athletes in general

edit: you're right, but he still has to opt out to maximize his earnings

as far as career choices are concerned no group is criticized more about loyalty than athletes, and what's unfair is that athletes have a short window, and then we like to make fun of them when they run out after retirement.

we have a love/hate relationship with athletes because of the money involved in sports, i think that's fairly obvious

I don't see why Boozer will "betray" Utah.

Utah can offer him more money than anywhere else. Why WOULDN'T he resign?

This is a completely different scenario from the Cleveland one, where Cleveland couldn't give him $60 mil that Utah gave him.

Everyone's saying he's a moneygrabber. But if he is one, then Utah has absolutely nothing to worry about. He will resign. It's as simple as that. Any other decision would make no financial sense.

So when he lied to Cleveland, who were stupid enough to take him at his word, that was OK, because it was for the money, right DD? OK to "maximize your profit" by being dishonest? Hey, doesn't matter, 'cause it's just a business. That's why we're all here, 'cause it's just a business. So if a member of the Rockets pulls the same stunt Boozer pulled on Cleveland, who cares? It's for the money and it's just a business!

Geez, DD. You're better than that.

I think he fully intended to re-sign with Cleveland and then got blown away by Utah's offer.

Once $60 million was on the table, he made the right choice for him and his family....

The screwup, IMHO, in that situation was Cleveland, they should have NEVER let him out of being a restricted Free agent.

Yes, they got screwed, but they left the door open for getting screwed, bad business move, IMO.

I always view these situations as assets from a management perspective, and the players as individual contractors.

The players best interests will always come before loyalty to any particular team.

Money and the desire to play in a city of your choice is what its all about.

    They are just mercenaries really.

Take the money, who can blame them

You would, if it were a member of the Rockets doing the same thing. IMO.

The issue isn't that he went to another team. The issues is that he made an agreement to stay. If you're working at a company and you make a commitment to stay i think it is just as shady if you jump ship. If he had said the average PC comments like "i'll go where they want me" then he wouldn't have felt that backlash.

He deserves the backlash, no doubt but I am sure that the $50 million more he made by going to Utah helps him cope with that backlash.

Same as John Elway not playing for the Colts, or Steve Francis not playing for the Grizzlies, or well.....you get my drift......players should always look out for themselves....

The Cavs made a very naive business decision, and it bit them in the butt.....they should have been smarter.

I can not blame Boozer for taking the money, I certainly would have......
