I read this book "The Girl in the Box" years ago. It was one of the freakiest things I'd ever read. Here is a sysnopsis of the ordeal.
He was originally sentenced for 50 years but served 14 years with parole. There's controversy in California now, legislature is working on an initiative to let 16,000 prisoners out of prison to save money. This sex slave case would be a good reason to NEVER do that. Radio show interviewed people who knew the guy. Said he was very kind, polite, very normal. Then kept getting increasingly eccentric, then last couple years more odd with his behavior. Which culminated with him creating his own religion for himself and hearing voices from God, the blog you posted as reference... Also, how did the kidnapped girl avoid having the babies in the hospital, where she would have been sure to have been ID'd? Unless she used some alias... Crappy part to think is he there's a chance he hasnt kept himself free from his young daughters either...freaking sicko
It reminded me of the crazy guy in Utah who kidnapped a girl from her house and lived with her and his wife in the mountains for a couple of years before the girl managed to escape. He also thought God was talking to him.
I can't understand how human beings can act like savages. This guy is one f***** up dude. And as for his wife, she just took the award for most evil b**** alive.
Am I reading this right? Sick *** dude kidnaps a 11 year old girl. Puts her in a shed behind his house. Never lets her out, even to see a doctor. The girl/woman has two of his kids ... giving birth out in a shed ... behind the guy's house ... without a doctor. That is positively medieval.
one of the effed up things about the story is that the stepfather was a suspect the whole time, he seen her get kidnapped right in front of his eyes, it ruined the marriage he had with the girls mother, sickening story indeed, it reminds me of that movie "i know my first name is steven", a similar story except involving a little boy,
Wow, this guy is not just sick, he's a wacko. http://www.mercurynews.com/breakingnews/ci_13222539 The convicted sex offender accused of snatching Jaycee Lee Dugard from a South Lake Tahoe street 18 years ago, then fathering her two children, told a Sacramento television station that "a digusting thing'' took place but that his life has "been straightened out.'' Phillip Garrido told KCRA 3 in a telephone interview that "you are going to be completely impressed'' when more details of what took place are revealed. "It's a disgusting thing that took place with me at the beginning,'' he told the TV station. "But I turned my life completely around and to be able to understand that, you have to start there." Garrido, who was arrested along with his wife Nancy, said his business, God's Desire, has "kept me busy the last several years.'' "And you're going to find the most powerful story coming from the witness, the victim -- you wait,'' he told the station. "If you take this a step at a time, you're going to fall over backwards and in the end, you're going to find the most powerful heart-warming story."
Man, he must have really brainwashed the little girl in the worst way. No social communication outside of the evil b**** and the wacko, I can't even begin to imagine what this girl/lady went through.
I'm a father of two young girls, I hope they give this guy the death penalty! I can't even imagine the ordeal the parents of this girl went through!
if you are referring to the Elizabeth Smart case, they brought her on Larry King last night to discuss her abduction and make comparisons to this case. the only thing is- Liz Smart was gone for 9 months before she returned. This girl was gone for 18 years and bore two children in a shed comparable to a third world shantytown, in which the three never left for school or doctors visits in the entire time. definitely more like the Steven Stayner story, he was abducted and raped for 7 years before he escaped with the young victim of his kidnapper...
It makes me sick that there were two children that came out of this whole ordeal. I'm hoping that a caring, loving family gets custody of them, and raises them properly.
Why couldn't Jaycee keep custody of her daughters? She doesn't seem to be complicit in these crimes. What she's been through has been bad enough, why should she have the girls taken from her?
What a terrible terrible ordeal someone has to go through in life... I thought I had it bad with my overflow of student loan debts, never take life for granted when situations like this happens...
yes, it's been stated since the story broke that the victim and her two children, 11 and 15 fathered by the abductor, lived in a backyard shed for their entire lives and time of captivity.
Ugh, there are SICK people out there...i dont know why our legal system sucks when it comes to sex offenders!!
Sure, there are differences. But, Elizabeth Smart wasn't imprisoned for 18 years only because her abductor was caught. But, it sounds like living conditions were comparable, the abductor was also assisted by a wife, it was also a snatch of a young-teen blonde girl, and the abductor was also a religious nut who essentially wanted a second wife.
