I'd still hire him a personal trainer for two years and see what happens. Then Send some of the players to work out with him in the off season. And he would likely feel indebted to us should he recover. A drop in the bucket for a player who is one one of the best if healthy.

Beat me to it. He's not better than Steve, and he's pretty much that type of guard. He's a good player, but been overrated ever since college hype. Hmm...sounds familiar.

One of the best? I dont know about that he has not proved anything when he was healthy losing his starting spot to JCrawford..

It would be interesting if he was healthy and had a desire to play here. I dont think it is worth the time and money to work on him.. We need help now.

"My gut feeling tells me the Rockets are making a mistake, baby, in evaluating their overall No. 1 pick. Still, Rudy T could shock America by having NBA commissioner David Stern announce Williams' name as the top pick. Then Houston would be moving toward the winner's circle."

    - Dick Vitale, ESPN.com, 6/21/02

I still remember how several people here wanted to trade Steve Francis for their pick and stuff like that.

    Shudder.

Alright, I said BACKUP. Period. Some of you act like I want to replace SF or something!!

"life time cripple" thats pretty harsh.

Also, I said "suppose" he gets cleared - as in hypothetically. I fully understand he could never play professional ball again.

I also know we will need another BACKUP next season.

The Bowie and Sampson references just show how big of jerks some people are.

Log off and try to get a real life for a change.

One important thing to note is that he's undergone a life changing event. And that changes a person. For the worse or for the better. So when and if he does come back from a physical standpoint, he won't be the same Jay Williams from a mental standpoint. Maybe better. Maybe worse. But this is where the Duke network he is tied to could really pay off.

Dont get me wrong I feel sorry for the guy.. and if he had ties to Houston it may be something to look into.

We need a backup PG true but I dont think its him.. but too honest the pool for PG's is pretty weak and I hope we luck out somehow.

The Rox definately need to learn to assess and develop talent better.

The guy violated his contract, he's lucky to be getting any money and to still be with the Bulls. If the Bulls were smart they would have ceased all salary to him then waited for him to recover and then cut a check for $500K and told him "bye bye".

I understand his injuries are very bad but by judging from everything I've been reading, he will eventually recover. Of course, this raises the question, "Will he ever regain his pre-injury form?" and that is the risk we would have to take. Personally, if I could sign him to a reasonable deal I would do it in a heartbeat. This guy was incredible in college and if the basketball gods love the Rockets and let him recover, we could hit the jackpot by having the #1 and #2 overall picks from a recent draft class.

    "Best PG on the planet."
