    cause he is old.
cause he can't keep up on D....D liability.
    he can't shoot staight.
    he can't run straight.
his career was long over back in his New York days.

what else do you need to do in basketball that requires one to play the game...the guy was/is horrible.

Does anyone know if the Rockets even have anything to offer? I thought we gave the last of our $$ to Baxter.

From what I gather, it would have to be for the minimum or a sign & trade where we inherit a bad contract and give up a couple of expiring ones.

How about the Rockets putting Charlie Ward and then Moochie on him in one on one games? Tell J Williams he needs to win over at least one of them to make the roster. Tell Ward and Moochie if you lose to J Will you are out. Make it competitive, mercy is reserved for grandmas. :D

Rockets give tryout to ex-Bull Williams
Player of year at Duke continues comeback attempt
    By JONATHAN FEIGEN
    Copyright 2005 Houston Chronicle

Free-agent guard Jay Williams, the second pick of the 2002 NBA Draft whose career was derailed by a motorcycle accident, worked out for the Rockets on Wednesday, though no contract offer was made or is immediately expected.

Williams, 24, has been working his way back toward the NBA since the 2003 accident that tore three of the primary ligaments in his left knee and fractured his pelvis.

He has been working out for several teams, including the Heat and Raptors, to demonstrate his progress after six surgeries.

Williams, the 2002 college player of the year for Duke, averaged 9.5 points and 4.7 assists as a Bulls rookie.

The Rockets, already over the luxury-tax threshold, have 16 players under contract, including eight guards, potentially limiting their immediate interest in making another roster addition.

Meanwhile, it was announced Wednesday that the Rockets once again will broadcast all 82 regular-season games in 2005-06. That includes 57 games on FSN Houston, which also has three exhibitions.

This will be the second year of the Rockets' long-term broadcast deal with FSN that moved the bulk of the team's games to cable.

Fourteen regular-season games and five exhibition games will air on KNWS (Channel 51). Seven games will air on TNT and five on ABC, locally on KTRK (Channel 13).

The Chronicle's David Barron contributed to this report.

Plus #2 from 2000, #4 from 1991 and #5 from 1994. Then there is that late lottery pick from 1997 we have that went #9.

I am certainly not advocating putting him back into the starting line-up. The fact remains he is better, health excepted, than Mooch as an insurance policy at the end of the bench. Everyone hopes neither one has to actually play. If it came to a cut or trade I would rather keep CWard, but if he is injured and can't come back the issue is moot.

This is just too sensible and reasonable to actually do it, but it is a good idea.

BTW: Has anyone in this thread actually seen JWill play in the last month, or are they talking out of their *ss as usual. And you are ready to offer him a 2-year guaranteed contract? If anyone here has actually seen him play lately then I apologise in advance.

I'm a big believer in 2 year contracts with a team option for the 3rd in most cases for players with signifigant potential that are stil trying to prove themselves.

Unless we think JWill is going to be a key rotation player on our way to a championship this year (which I don't) then there is no point in signing him to a 1 year contract.

But if our coaching staff thinks they have evaluated him to where he will be ready to challange for a spot in the rotation in 6 months to a year then I would definenitely give him a 2 year contract with a team option.

I would hate to give JWill a 1 year deal just to watch him really start to play up to his former potential and then loose him to free agency because we did not have his bird rights.

A bad 2 year contract is gone in a couple of years...but we would be kicking ourselves in the ass for the next ten years if he had JWill on this team and lost him to free agency because we did secure his bird rights if he turned into a superstar.

IMO if he is worth signing...and that is only if our coaching staff feels he still has the potential....then he is worth signing for at least two years with a team option for 3 in order to secure his bird rights.

I will be happy to accept the teams evaluation of him.

Even CD forgot about him in an interview earlier this year on 610. He didn't even count him as one of the guards on the team. That was funny and should tell you a little something.

His agent said he made it back to 80%... That's like the CEO of McDonalds telling you Big Macs are great if you are trying to lose weight.

I'm rooting for the guy but I don't think it's worth picking him up, unless they can pay the absolute minimum salary. The guy broke his pelvis, dislocated his hip, almost died. How his skeleton is going to hold up to an 82-game NBA schedule is very much in question -- I would not bet on him ever playing meaningful NBA minutes again.

I wouldnt expect a whole lot right away but maybe a couple flashes of his old self here and there at first. I just look at it this way, we have Moochie (truly horrible) and Ward (done) taking up space who will never ever be decent. At least Jay has the potential to be OK. Something Mooch will never be and Ward will never again. What can it hurt?

If we dump Mooch and JWill turns out to be a turd then we are right back where we were anyway.
